Didn't they say that Mana was a slowly regenerating resource? It seems to regenerate almost as quickly as Arcane Power, judging from the beta.

The designers themselves said it would seem strongly regenerating at first, but once you got past lvl 10 it would start seeming slower and you could bottom it out. Think of it to help with the early start, it was never fun playing a new naked caster in d2 because you constantly ran out of mana.

That makes a lot of sense! Thanks. I'm relieved to know that the mana bulb will have a different feel from the other resources after all. I suppose by level 10 the Witch Doctor will have more options through which he/she can manage his/her resources.
There seem to be a lot of nice rune effects for regenerating mana. It's hard to tell how useful they will be looking at low level.

Wow adopted that formula as well, giving hyper life/mana regeneration at low levels, until being normalized at lvl 15.
Open official site, go to skill calculator and check out mana costs for some skills. They are in the freaking hundreds!!! If mana maximum grows with levels, and mana regenereation does not, you'll wait for eternity to regenerate anything...
Of course regen will grow, but obviously not proportionally to max.
As a note: I noticed five of the WD's passive skills revolve around gaining or regenerating Mana. The Wizard only has four passive skills which revolve around gaining or generating Arcane Power.

Look at the circle of life passive, regains 10% max mana per health orb consumed.
Or Rush of Essence, all spirit spells repays 200% of their cost over 10secs.
Or Spiritual Attunement. 20% increased max mana and regaining 2% max mana per second.
Or Blood Ritual, all mana costs are halved, pay the rest in life, and gain 2% max life per second.
Id say Spiritual Attunement is the weakest of the mana recovering passives, just not enough bang for the buck to take up a passive slot imo.
Circle of Life synergizes extremely well together with Gruesome Feast that gives you a stacking Attack buff per orb consumed. As youd want to keep being able to chain attacks to take advantage of your buff while present, and CoL provides you with a hefty, scaling amount of mana.
With Blood Ritual you can then rune all your spells to recover life.
Edit:
Hmm, I wonder.. Circle of Life+Gruesome Feast+Blood Ritual. Then you have the recipe for a rush build to brutally plow through ranks of foes with nukes, never stopping, always hunting more health orbs to keep up the killing spree. And finally rune all spells to recover life and you are set.
Mana Recovery Build
--------------------
Haunt + Golden Runestone = Draining Spirit
The spirit returns 100% of damage done as Mana for you.
PLUS
Passive Skill - Rush of Essence
Spirit Spells return 200% of their Mana cost over 10 seconds.
EQUALS
1276 mana over 17 seconds.
PLUS
Spiritual Attunement
Maximum Mana is increased by 20%, regain 2% of your maximum Mana per second
EQUALS
After the full 17 seconds you gain 1276 mana + 34% of your character's total mana
--------------------------------
Also: Big Bad Voodo - Rain Dance
Activating Big Bad Voodoo - Rain dance can recover a ton of mana (1584 per second for 20 seconds), but you end up putting that skill into a 120 second cooldown, and you have to be standing in it's area of effect.
Haunt + Golden Runestone = Draining Spirit
The spirit returns 100% of damage done as Mana for you.
PLUS
Passive Skill - Rush of Essence
Spirit Spells return 200% of their Mana cost over 10 seconds.
EQUALS
1276 mana over 17 seconds.
It will be a lot more than that, because attack stat and gear increase the damage done by Haunt into multiples. ;)
Plus we dont know how big a level 60 mana pool is.
