massive win
Hm. Some of those numbers, relatively speaking, was not what I expected. Energy Twister looks terrible; Arcane Torrent being actually very similar to Ray of Frost in the damage department, and Meteor/Blizzard being big cost offensive spells instead of high cooldown damage burst spells.
Looks like "Academic" spells are going to be the cost efficient nukes, most other offensive spells are fast conversion of AP into damage. To be honest, this is just begging for abusing the resource system until you can spam the gigantic AoE nukes, leading us back to Frozen Orb Sorcs all over again (except this time no immunities to halt them).
The cool thing is that Spectral Blade is indeed based off weapon damage.

Precisely.
Thank you very much for that link, and kudos to the guy/girl that made this. It's awesome.

Do not forget that all of this scales with you level and is going to be effected by runes. We have no idea yet how this will impact what. Some runes may indeed allow us to spam AoEs till theres no tomorrow but also we might find some way to turn the "****ty" spells in the the best ones in the game. Until we're 60 and have tested things out there is no way to say.
Also thank god for skills being limited by cost and not cooldowns, I am sick and tired of WoW cooldown style play. I loved the fact that you could SPAM the **** out of spells in D2!

And I am sick of spam play. Vomit inducing sick. Revolvers at dawn, chap?

Pretty much agree with the D2 part. I don't want to rely on cooldowns too much, and I don't want them to be a big part of D2. Just some really good old fashion mass killing and skill spamming. It was enjoyable and fun for me in D2, and hopefully will be the same in D3.
I hate it when cooldowns become so important that your character feels weak without them, and you have to wait for your skills to cool down to actually do something meaningful. I certainly don't want that in D3.

But it won't be so bad if all your skills are viable and the ones with the bigger cooldowns make you go: "holy moly, that's friggin' awesome!", will it?
Edit: Thanks for the link jamesL!

That much is true. The system allows for skills to be swapped at any time (as far as we know), and runes will probably make most skills viable, so you probably won't rely on big cooldowns much. And I definitely welcome that.

Yes, and as far as I know that's their intended goal (every skill being 'viable'). Although some skills will definately be more powerful than others, I'm having high hopes for my melee Wizard in Diablo 3.
Great work!
I think there must be something that prevents the locked skills from computing character level or something like that. If you look at Disintegrate, and compare it with Arcane Torrent, there is just no reason to not choose Arcane Torrent (unless you have a conveniently long, single file of enemies shambling towards you).
Disintegrate: 21 arcane power / second 18-23 damage + disintegration (fluff)
Arcane Torrent: 20 arcane power / second 31-51 damage to all targets near impact location
There are many other examples. I have a suspicion that character levels will impact how the spell mechanics work but they may not be calculated properly until they are activated.
One can hope, anyway.

Hmmm yeah, melee wizard seems viable to be honest. I'm not too interested in playing one, but then again I AM a fan of mixing magic with swordplay, so who knows :)
@Adree: the ability to disintegrate enemies you kill is not just fluff, it prevents monsters from being raised from the dead by other monsters, and it also prevents stuff like corpse explosion or similar abilities that need a corpse to be useful. And monsters in the game will probably have such abilities. Arcane torrent is the best spell I've seen so far (it's awesome!), but it's useless if enemies keep getting resurrected massively. Disintegrate, on the other hand, would deal with such a situation adequately.
Also interesting that you can stack Magic Weapon + Spectral Blade as Magic Weapon buffs the weapon you hold, and Spectral Blade is based off weapon damage. At least a bone for the battle-mage types.
Yeah, I think the energy twister number is a typo or an issue with the scaling due to the character being a lower level than the actual skill. Of course, it also depends on how long the twisters actually stick around, and how crazy the runestone effects are (have those leaked like the monk ones yet?).

Yep, you can find them here (http://wowbox.tw/d3/skill.php?stl=AttributeDescriptions). Do a text search on the page (CTRL+F in my browser) for the skill's name you're looking for, without spaces.
Thanks! I looked on that site, but only at some of the individual character pages where I didn't see anything like that.
Awesome! i will have close look on best toon in d3 :)

So do you start gaining arcane power eventualy? When casting the Acedemic Spells? I understand the concept.. that you start the game with them, so they need to feel like the cost a resource, but they are designed to be spamable, so eventually they would be free.
Does any one know where it stops? 1? 0? or actually start giving you Arcane power on cast?
Thanks

http://wowbox.tw/d3/skill.php?id=EnergyTwister
There you can find all the skill rune effects of Energy Twister. And if you click a class at the top of the page, you get all the skills of that class in a nice list, click on a skill and you see all the rune effects.
No need to search in that other crazy long list!

Naaah i dont think so. Maybe the min is 1 or 0 but no giving AP for casting, sounds weird.

Good thing smart resource design prevents dumb spamming. :smug:

good points
Under the skill it says:
"This is an academic spell, academic spells cost 1 less arcane power everytime you gain a level"
So is that all you get about the skill when you reach a new level? Damage, duration...etc nothing changes but only "1 less arcane power" ? I thought Wilson said when you reached a new level the skills you have get stronger?
I think we will miss skill points so much.

They do get stronger, their damage scales with your level or gear, depending on the skill. Higher level also means better gear, including runes.
So if you have exactly the same gear there is no difference between level 10 and level 11 cleave for example?

There should be a difference, although very minor. Since your stats increase when you level up, your Attack will be slightly higher on level 11 even with the same gear, so your cleave should do slightly more damage.

Thanks for the link... great resource! slow time + meteor looks so juicy.
That quoted link in the OP's post triggered my AV as an exploit.
That quoted link in the OP's post triggered my AV as an exploit.
in addition to opening the wizard skill sheet, the link also opens up an ad and when I close the ad it opens a new tab and puts the ad in it, maybe that's what the AV is picking up

Hey people, I'm still in the process of filling those skillpanes. Would help me greatly if anyone with a beta could provide all Tooltips of the active skills of Demon Hunter and Witch Doctor in 1080p :) The webspace I have this on atm is pretty bad with those ads, so only use it if you have adblock installed.

Well your AV is probably warning you because its a javascript running. AV shouldnt report because of ADs.

no. would you want a skill that you reserve for special purposes since casting them on regular mobs is a waste of cooldown time?
great job so far panikmeister
when will you finish the other 3 classes ?

True. I'm still full of glee from that fact. And also that Magic Weapon boosts Spectral Blade! And also for the datamined rune effects that are as equally astounding. :p

@ReLaXeD: Monk is finished already. Im lacking the Skilltooltips of DH and WD in high resolution though. So it will take until I can get them. Probably 1 to 2 days. I'm also adding the rune stone effects (am done for Barb, Wiz and DH).
@ZharTheMad: Yeah thats pretty cool, but also weird that you gotta run around with a big 2hand axe or something :D
It presumably behaves like other weapon skills, so attack speed also improves it. So you don't *need* to run around with highest damage item.
ZharTheMad
12-09-2011, 17:40
We still don't know if attack speed or cast speed improves it. If the latter then yeah, a big axe or The Grandfather would be nice, since spectral blades hit for 3 times simultaneously, right?
Or maybe a shiny 1hand mace/sword + a nice shield would do. Can't wait. :(

I do want that, yes. I see no problem in having one skill with high cooldown as long as my other skills can dispose of the "lesser monsters" easily enough. In fact, I think it greatly enhances the gameplay.

Aw damn :D
I imagined that they would do something like that.
But I never thought that they would release it this early.
I mean we dont even have public beta yet -.-
edit: But you know what? On my site you have everything on one screen (skilltooltip and runeeffects :D), so you dont have to switch views.
edit2: Oh damn but the official skill calc is based on Level 60 and Rank7 Runes !
