i doubt it. i'm not sure why but i'm starting to believe some people's theories that blizzard is using this leak as a BNet stress test

no. it was part of the plan to test launcher and dl servers before the beta

I think it makes sense. I also think that the seemingly intentional leak ("it hasn't been found wink wink") might just be to reduce the load downloading at beta time.

How can you test something which has no feedback option or place to give it

#fail

They can monitor. And people will report probs on forums like these.

It's about testing the launcher, if the download, update etc is working. And while "downloading" it can transfer all kind of data, Sherlock.

+1 to intentional leak, even if not I think it will speed it up actually, since blizz wants to prevent more data leakage and Im 100% confident a lot of people are allready at trying to get some stuff emulated for it.

My question is; why all other act informations are in the beta client? This does not make any sense.

I thought it was odd it was at an unsecured part of the website. Usually precautions are taken to prevent direct access of files by the public... it's almost like the leak was intended (though not necessarily directed).

well you're downloading the game from Blizzard servers in the patcher so they can basically monitor the traffic going through their servers especially once it leaked with the spike of patch downloads

your comment is #fail, think about it , if you test a server if it uploades correctly HMMMMMMMM do you need a feedback sheet for that?

Can't imagine why it would.

I'm sure Blizzard anticipated this.

For what it's worth, my completed and installed file is alternatingly called "diablo III beta" and "diablo III retail." we are downloading the full game, but beyond skeleton king will be limited somehow. When it's released, we will just need to buy the key.

They're probably monitoring all the accounts that attempted to login to the beta early and scratching them off their list of potential candidates.

The installer is publicly available on their site, they knew that people would start downloading it. It is very easy to make the installer privately available to the people who have keys activated.

With all fansites "encouraging" to do so?

The minute I saw force doing a video about it it confirmed there's nothing to worry about

The absolute best way to run a beta is to ensure you remove all the potential testers who are curious about things.

The client wasn't leaked; it was available on Blizzard's server for anyone to download. It only "leaked' in that its location was known only to invited beta testers, who had to DL the client to play the game. The SC2 client was similarly available, but there wasn't the same sort of secret info leaking since it didn't have the SP game, and the entire MP game was included in that beta test. Data mining there uncovered some stuff, but mostly just stats and such that weren't visible in the game.

My question is; why all other act informations are in the beta client? This does not make any sense.

Blizzard removed a ton of stuff from the beta client. That's why we've only got Act one music, and we'll soon be posting lots of selected NPC and character dialogues (audio). There are also a bunch of really cool piece of lore about monsters (audio). But they're all about early Act One stuff, as all the later Act 1 and 2-4 content of that nature was removed from the beta client.

What people are digging all the other late game info out of are the various game files that contain every level, every skill, etc. In theory Blizzard could have had their programmers go through those files and remove everything from later than act one, but that would have been a LOT of extra work, and would probably have caused a ton of bugs. Any programmer can tell you that scripts are not neat and self contained and that yanking out big chunks of data will lead to a lot of unintended problems.

Basically, Blizzard knew this would happen and decided they didn't care enough to make the big extra effort to prevent it. They'll just ban all conversation about it on their forums and count on the vast majority of players to not be following fansites in advance of the game launch. Besides, it's not like anyone reading this forum now is like, "I don't want to buy the game anymore." It's only serving to build excitement.

Tomorrow Blizzard is going to release a statement saying "Shame on you, Internet. We trusted you and all you did was expose our secrets. We're officially pushing the beta start date back 2 weeks. And no dessert either."

you know, not everything you read on the internet is meant to be taken seriously

and I'm sure if you ask sixen or bashiok, they'll tell you there was no leak

Incorrect. You will need to re-install for release, the released game will be larger, with far more content and media.
