Some people on the PoE forums and some PM's on here (surprisingly!) are confused what makes PoE 'special' from other arpgs. To clarify some things I shall take what Chris has spoken with me about (which coincidentally are now online on the PoE FAQs) lol.
Summarized List:
A gritty dark fantasy setting, supporting a hostile cutthroat atmosphere.
Free to play on online servers with persistent character storage in a secure economy.
A unique active skill system that will allow any class to use any skills in the game and augment/combine them how they see fit.
A haunting fixed-perspective 3D game world, constructed with incredible attention to detail.
Deep passive skill system that eschews the mere allocation of stat points when levels are gained
Incredibly complex and sophisticated item system with literally unlimited possibilities.
A random generation system for monster loot that is dynamic and tremendously exciting.
I'd also like to thank other forum members (myndBlank and ACWings) on this Sub-forum for their in depth look at the classes and it's unique attribute system. Which can be found in the following links:

You know that's what I think some people wanted from D3. It's certainly not what I want, I want a franchise to move forward not stagnate. I've been reading the chats in some of those streams and it's mostly ill-informed people on the mechanics of D3. They think if they're playing PoE they're the hardcore gamer and D3 is the rainbow and care bear game.
But hey, that's their opinion I suppose and I will respect that. PoE is just another contender in arpgs and it looks freaking fantastic imo

In the DIII vs PoE vs Grim Dawn vs Torchlight II vs... thread, I said
I saved DIII for last because it's a game that I want to be great since Diablo got me into the hacknslash/ARPG genre. Since I feel so strongly for it, well, it looks really less like PoE or GD looks like a Diablo game. I don't like what i've seen from the skill system, lack of stat points or blizzard supported AH. Based on what I've seen it looks and feels more like WoW with the isometric 3rd person view. Blizzard seems to be aiming more toward the casual audience because thats where the money is, it's just not where I am. Will I buy it? We shall see.
It's not that I want the genre to stagnate, it's the opposite. If the game had a different name it might be a different story, but it doesn't so many people feel it should have certain features. I understand where you are coming from and am just looking forward to getting my hands on any of the 4 upcoming hacknslash's

I gotcha I hope what I wrote didn't come off as passive aggressive in any way. And I know you didn't mean too either. It's just always good to have other options out there on what to play. More choice to gamer = a happy gamer imo

So, in order to prove PoE is different from the Diablo Franchise... You give a list of features that are similar to the Diablo Franchise?
Lets face it...D3 is just as different from D2 as PoE is...maybe more so.
The fact is blizz are still reaping the rewards of creating games like diablo and even though they can put a completely new team on D3 and change the very look of it ( i wouldnt have known which was which had i not been told ) people are going to buy it in droves because it seems they have faith in this new team.I keep regurgitating the words reserving judgement....

This thread wasn't meant for hate on either game. I will be playing both. I understand some of you have lost faith in Blizzard and their Diablo IP, while I don't share those sentiments I won't condemn you.
The list in the first post was geared more towards just distraught D1&2 players. I was just sharing some info. for the game that I think looks great. I know people are trying to look for alternatives to Diablo 1,2 and 3.
I don't see any hate and though i know there is some i tihnk it better understood as dissapointment plus youthfull attitudes. To be honest i don't think i've got anywhere near to emotion regarding any news about D3 other than the first announcement which made me happy...i belive most of the "hatred" we see on forums is simply overexageration intended to shock or amuse more than the last post did.Two groups normally form after an announcement of note and people don't even see their opinions change to better suit the group they have unknowing become a part of...i much prefer the fence where i can observe from afar..most of the time anyway lol.
But back on topic...PoE has more in common with D1 so i suppose they are better compared in my opinion.

Well put sir/madam,
I usually like to observe from afar (aka forum lurker) but I'm super excited for PoE. I also like to try and be critical about new things though. I think a common problem is that when a nice shiny new game appears a stimuli of novelty comes in and affects our judgment. Damn our monkey minds lol.
Me too i'm hoping i feel like i did back in the day playing my first D2 chars.

I'm anxious to play both D3 and PoE. But honestly, I don't see anything different from PoE and the early Diablo Franchise.

Trust me the game is similar to the diablo franchise, but very very unique as well. Just take the skill system. All skills are gems that can be level up and then traded to other players... They can be inserted into sockets, and linked to other helper gems to buff them, etc..etc..etc... Also there are like over 100 passives(guessing by what Ive seen) that any character can pick as they want to on the massive skill tree. The game is very unique, and yet very familiar, which is exciting if you ask me.

Ya their skill system, gems and their experience coinciding with your character progression is very unique. Looking at all these different dudes streams isn't satisfying my need to learn the system better lol. On the good streams I go full screen and pretend I'm playing (I know sad).
