If you haven't checked out any of the Dev Diaries (http://www.pathofexile.com/news/dev-diary/) I highly recommend it. The devs talk about different game systems, design decisions, and other interesting things about the game. There are some really good ones. It is pretty cool to see how much thought they put in to rethinking the ARPG genre and come up with some innovative systems.
These are my favorite entries:
Rethinking Gold as Currency (http://www.pathofexile.com/news/2011-02-08/dev-diary-currency)
This one goes over common gold systems and economy balancing, and why most systems fail. Then they talk about the system they implemented. It sounds pretty cool. I'm curious to see how the system works out though since it is quite different.
Flask System (http://www.pathofexile.com/news/2011-03-21/dev-diary-flasks)
Talks about existing potion systems and the modified system they created to improve on it: Flasks that not only heal but have extra attributes depending on the flask.
There are a lot of other good ones too. This game looks like it will be awesome and has a great dedicated team with some cool ideas. Looking forward to it!
