I am making a light sorc and am in the process of acquiring the runes for infinity however I am getting mixed views on how the thing actually works.

1) Does the sorc have to wear the infinity to benefit from the -lightning resist or is a merc with it on fine?
2) Do majority of light sorcs wear infinity if thats the case? Most of the guides I read have them on the merc.

The sorc has to wear it in order to get the -lightning res bonus. There are a few sorcs who do that, but it's usually worn by the merc. The conviction aura lowers enemy fire/lightning/cold resists (not poison resist) for any attack, no matter who wears it.

However infinity does not break all immunes. Most light immunes can be broke because light immunes usually have under 117% light resist.

1) You should have a look at this guide (http://diablo.incgamers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=658719), it'll explain the details.
2) Most use it on their mercs I'd say. Using it on yourself gives you a great -elr boost, but it's harder to get the fcr and/or mf to the levels you want them to be.
