I know there's something in the values thread but I believe that's from a prior ladder season, so I figured the info might b outdated. I am tryimg to just figure out what and what not to hold on to, and roughly the values.
If it matters I am trying to get enough together eventually for Ohm and jah so I can make a famine axe for my conv zealot.
I have mainly been collecting perf gems and rals, but I have seen people buying other crafting runes too, like ort and thul I think. I have been cubing up thuls and orts, maybe I should stop? Any help on how much of these I need to gather and whether or not to hang on to chipped gems would be appreciated. I'm real equip poor so running help bosses isn't an option,so I'm just tryin to get enough crafting stuff to trade so i can get some decent gear.

Not quite the right place for your post, but here's a quick writeup on ladder season values, the low runes and gems you probably want to save, and their primary functions:
Perfect Amethysts: Caster Amulets, Caster Rings, Socketing Weapons
Perfect Diamonds: Upgrading Exceptional Unique Armors to Elite, Rerolling
Perfect Emeralds: Safety Amulets, Rerolling
Perfect Rubies: Blood Rings, Amulets, Gloves, Belts, Socketing Shields
Perfect Sapphire: Hitpower Gloves, Socketing Helms
Perfect Skulls: Rerolling
Perfect Topazes: Socketing Body Armors, Rerolling
Nef Runes: Blood Gloves
Tal Runes: Spirit, Insight, Blood Belts, Socketing Body Armors, Socketing Shields
Ral Rune: Insight, Caster Amulets, Socketing Weapons, Socketing Helms
Ort Rune: Spirit, Hitpower Gloves
Thul Rune: Spirit, Safety Amulets, Socketing Body Armors, Socketing Helms
Amn Rune: Spirit: Caster Rings, Blood Amulets, Socketing Weapons, Socketing Shields
Sol Rune: Insight, Blood Rings
Hel Runes: Cleaning Socketed Items of Gems and Runes
Ko Runes: Upgrading Exceptional Unique Armors to Elite
Lem Runes: Upgrading Exceptional Unique Armors to Elite
These are the gems you'll want to keep for cubing your currency runes to higher runes. Remember that certain cubes aren't really practical in terms of cost: the obvious ones are Ohm to Lo, Lo to Sur, Ber to Jah, and Jah to Cham, but you also tend to lose some value on converting Um to Mal and Ist to Gul, so those cubes need to be done with consideration.
Flawed Diamonds: Cubing Um Runes
Regular Amethysts: Cubing Ist Runes
Regular Rubies: Cubing Vex Runes
Regular Emeralds: Cubing Ohm Runes
Flawless Amethyst: Cubing Ber Runes
Flawless Emerald: Cubing Zod Runes
In terms of cost, Famine isn't terribly practical. There are better things you can do with the money, and if you'd like, I can give you some decent Gimmershred or a Baranar's Star for your goal.
Chipped Gems aren't really worth keeping. Not many people will bother to use chippies on a high qlvl item like a zerker or vortex orb for decent mods, although I know planqi was interested in trying.
Wow, nice thorough post. On the rune cubing part I'd say "cubing to um runes" and so on to be a little more clear (at least to me). I'll add that the more popular materials (well at least when I'm after them...) are: perfect amethysts, perfect rubies, sols and rals. Don't forget people buy junk jewels too. I'm also considering buying a bunch of chipped gems too, but I'm not sure what kind of price those should go for (maybe 30 for lem).

I use chippies to cube runes like amn, thul, and dol. I don't cube sol, shael or hel unless I really have to.

Thanks, I asked in trade value forum but couldn't get an answer. I guess cubing up my tals, thuls, and amns wasn't such a brilliant idea lol
