View Full Version : FAM with the exception of MultiRes league/games?

I can't get the Glide wrapper to work correctly and I'm not too keen on playing D2 through again on 800 x 600. If I end up getting the wrapper working (not likely probably) then I would be quite happy using that. I am still unsure as to why the wrapper is allowed but MultiRes is not though, if the Glide wrapper still allows a higher resolution?

Would such a league be considered on these forums? If not, no biggie. I would not want to tarnish the legitamacy of the SPF, although it would be a seperate "league" so to speak.Of course, this would be 1.12a as there is not 1.13c compatible version of MultiRes (yet...)

Any interest?

EDIT: If I run MultiRes on one 1.12 Diablo 2 installation, for LAN play with my gf only (As I think she would hate the dated gfx), and then another 1.13 Diablo 2 installation for SPF trading and games, perhaps that would be suitable. Of course, there would not be any correlation/trading/twinking/anything between these two installations.

It's been beaten pretty hard in the SPF a few times, even since I've been around, but here's the basic problem of any High Resolution mod for Diablo II -- It increases the players field of vision, without increasing the AI field of vision. Therefore, you would be able to see enemies using the mod that would normally be two or more screens away. Because the enemies still perceive you as being two+ screens away, they'll happily do nothing while you cast Blizzard, throw Javelins, etc.

The difference with the Glide wrapper is that it stretches the same screen over your monitor. This is the exact same thing playing Diablo II in fullscreen mode does, except the Glide wrapper allows you to do 3D filtering, sampling, etc to make the game look better than the default D3D or DDraw modes. In essence, it shows what DII would show by default, just fancier.

Personally, I play at 800x600 (in a window, even though I use the Glide wrapper) on a 1080p monitor, and I don't have any problem with it. The ability to lock the mouse to the window with the Glide wrapper is pretty much necessary for me though. If you send me a PM, I can attempt to help you get the wrapper working.

Your edit is probably going to be the best avenue for you to take if you are adamant on using a MultiRes mod with Diablo II. It is definitely not a FAM, and using it looks you out of trading and MP.

Also, I'm sure a Mod will chime in (I guess that means Thy nowadays) with an official stance.

Thanks for your comments Matt (assuming your name is Matt... :))
Yes, my edit idea is probably the best for now. I have a feeling that my gf won't be too keen on playing in an 8 player game anyways - We'll probably do everything in a rush and she'll get lost and frustrated with it all. So I guess that probably isn't so bad after all. It would be nice to respec though (MR doesn't work with 1.13 yet).

I'll see how the second copy of Diablo 2 goes with patch 1.13. I'm still having issues getting the wrapper to work properly though, there's a thread here (http://diablo.incgamers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=762440) about it. That's another story though, I guess!

No the res editor is not allowed if you are going to MP or trade in the SPF.

If you want to discuss the dual set up, PM me.
