I thought this looked like a decent mod for returning to this classic after some time:

http://diablo.phx.pl/awake/

There is a lot I like; the vendors all in town, the stash (yum!) the new creatures and items.

Too bad its nigh unplayable :(

After about 3 attempts I finally got a Sorc to level 4. After about 15 tries to get past level 2 of the dungeon I am beginning to think it is a cruel joke.

I have no money, no potions, all of my staves have about 6 six charges left because I cant afford to get that dumb witch to recharge them.

And right at the entrance to level 2 there is a unique lurker, Shadowbite I think, who seems to be immune to everything.

Very funny....:whistling:

Do people actually enjoy this? I love some of the ideas, especially the stash, but the difficulty is just absurd.

yeah some modmakers (specially d1 ones) seem to believe that not being able to walk anywhere and not being able to kill anything is "fun". I loved the features of "the hell" hellfire mode, but the thing is unplayable for the average player. I would stick to unmodded diablo 1 (not hellfire) because it is already challenging enough and fun.

I wish I could find a mod that allowed all the single-player quests to be playable in multiplayer. That is the one thing that I would like to see on diablo 1.

Try the Middle Earth mod (there's a thread in this forum). It is difficult, but not impossibly so, at least in normal diff. You'll probably need to do a bit of grinding before you can take on Sauron (Lazarus - definitely need 75% fire resist) but it's good fun. The first time you take on Sauron, I'd do it with the expectation that you will die, so clear the level first and make sure you have TeleK to get your items back. Nightmare difficulty is quite a challenge and I got nowhere near finishing Hell (probably only got to dlvl 8 or 9 or so). In ME, you really will need top-quality uniques to handle NM Hell with ease and even attempt Hell difficulty.

The Rogue in ME is probably the easiest, and is great fun to play with a crossbow or better yet greater crossbow (low damage, but extremely high fire rate).

I love unmodded Diablo, but really miss features like the stash since I only play single player. Tried searching for a mod that does this and there is mention of it on this forum but all of the links are dead :(

I would have my doubts about doing that. Accepting that stash from a new member that is. /w two posts

I only mean to say: watchout

Thanks, I agree :)

I did manage to find Ulmos stash mod, although I cannot get it to work. The loader appears to be working since I can run without the CD, but Gillian never offers to hold anything for me. :(
