Character Nicknames (i.e Blood Raven)

Since in D3 the player characters are meant to be more developed than in D1 and D2 (i.e .. now they have a voice, a background story and class quests).

So why not give each and everyone of them a nickname they go with (like Blood Raven the nickname used for the female rouge from D1) that will give them even more personality and attach the players to them specially during the SP experience, and of course won't change the fact that they are only nicknames and that the player can still name the character as he pleases .. but the nickname will be used by other NPCs in the game to point at the player characters in both spoken and written dialog.

Well, we don't know the fate of the heroes yet but here are some of my suggestions. I think they're ok names for "fallen heroes".. rather generic though... bear in mind that they could go on to be mercenaries or friendly npcs.

Assassin - Night Shade
Druid - Moon Stalker
Paladin - Black Helm
Sorceress - The Enchantress
Amazon - The Dark Impaler
Necromancer - Bonecurse

As for my ideas, here are some nickname ideas for D3 characters.

Barbarian - M:Silver Beard / F:Crimson Mare
Witch Doctor - M:Plague Skin / F:Slimy Toad
Wizard - M:Cascading Doom /F:Swift Bane
Monk - M:Rising Dragon / F:Golden Lotus

I know some of them sound a little lame but i guess it's ok for nicknames.

Ah you meant the D3 characters, I must've skipped over the first sentence. It's a good idea though, because it means you can have more personal conversations with NPCs, like "Hey, you must be the great Silver Beard, heard about you icing Diablo." etc

I like all of yours except for Slimy Toad. Some alternatives: Poison Tongue, Dream Chaser, Spirit Eyes, Hex Feather, Claw Raiser. Or they could be mixed around getting names like Spirit Feather and Dream Raiser.

It's ok, actually come to think of it, since some characters from D2 will make an appearance in D3 it is natural that they need nicknames since NPCs will need a way to reference them (like what happened with Blood Raven)

Come to think of it, if anyone still has D1 manual .. did it say anything about the nicknames of the playable characters in D1 ... or did the developers just make up the name to use in D2 to reference the heroine from D1.

That's indeed the point, now that the characters finally have voices it almost feels as important that they have some nickname people call them with in conversations .. it gives them more presence and personality.

Spirit Eyes and Poison Tongue sound like nice nick names for the female Witch Doctor.

Here's (http://www.diablowiki.net/Diablo_I_Manual) the online version of the manual at Diablo Wiki. Couldn't find any mention of Raven or Blood Raven though. That's not to say that there isn't a nickname hidden in there somewhere though.
