On the playable version at Blizzcon the monk was only able to use and started with "Combat staff"
On the gameplay video he seemed to wear fist weapons at some part.

How do you think the monk weapons will work out? I think they could go with safe route of allowing use of all weapons in D2 style, but make some skills usable only with the monk weapons: staff, fist weapons, and some other weapons?? Hopefully the monk will be more weapon friendly than the Assassin.

I want to see some combo moves that will use weapons as well, some sick looking staff twirling perhaps. :jig:

I just wonder how impenetrable defense works without a staff.

Probably a Staff or perhaps those nunchaks that Bruce Lee uses.

I hope you can use your bare hands too.

Cool if....Nunchakus, shuriken, staff, kama, there should be a whole bunch of peasant-style weaps. go with storylines of some sort. Field work was more common during our 'monk days' and so many of the potent weaps came from understanding simple farming tools.

I think it would be the best thing ever if monks get to use tonfa. If they're going for a combo-oriented theme, they're pretty hard to beat. Maybe they'll even have a 3-section staff, but I'm not holding my breath on that one.

Hopefully they can atleast wield all weapons. One of the best things in Diablo 2 were the crazy specs where the character would wear way different items than usually. Melee necros and sorcerers etc...

Would be quite awesome if there were some rare monk build that used 2h sword for one skill or something.

He'll use claws. At least, mine will, if they're good.

I hope they can pull off bare hands and feet.

I got a crazy thought that could be interesting to share:

Some kind of boots with blades that enhances damage dealt with skills using kicks.

I see the potential problem with this though: Seven-sided strike looks like it has both punches and kicks with it being a random thing whether he punches or kicks. With a skill like that, it would be impossible to balance.

EDIT:
On another note about weapons, I could imagine the monk being able to use smaller, bladed weapons (that other classes can use too), but using them differently ("punch-stabbing" with daggers, rather than slashing with them). He would be able to dual-wield these smaller weapons (he uses both his fists after all), though it does risk edging him much closer to the Barb (though the Barb would dual wield anything that's not two-handed, not just daggers and smaller blade weapons).

Considering the part of the Monk's introduction trailer where the Morlu Caster breaks the Monk's bo (staff) into two smaller pieces (given that it wasn't just set up and weapons still can break in DIII (durability?)) it only would make sense to include kali/escrima/whatever-they-are-called fighting sticks.

This even could be a neat feature for the all new weapon customization system(s) the devs succesfully avoid to lose any details about - wouldn't it be neat if the player could decide whether he wants to use the staff or intentionally break the staff in half and use the two parts as fighting sticks (single or dual wielding) instead?

Mh, I don't know... just a thought.
And probably not "awesome" enuff for DIII anyway.

Call me crazy, but I can see him wielding a big mace :-)

I hope you can use your bare hands too.

Id like to see bearfists get a speed bonus but where the damage could come from besides being inherent in the skill I dont know(maybe Strength/Dexterity but straight damage rather than %).

i think the weps will work great you equip the fist blades and they boost the attack damage for things like seven sided strike or way of hundred fists or you can equip the staff for impentrable defense or you may be able to do impentrable defense without the staff?

probably gauntlets or bracers doubling up as armor and weapon

It could be similar to how a mastery only functions on a per-weapon basis.
