View Full Version : Trade Forum Complaint/Suggestion
Heres the USEast Standard Trade Forum Rules link for easy reference:
http://diablo.incgamers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=666250
Other than the fact that the rules list seriously reads like a lawyers rule book. It's completely confusing and hard to decipher. It also kind of leads alot to interpretation.
It clearly states in both the Forum rules and the Trade forum rules:
Do not bump any post.
Then also states:
As stated in the rules, bumping is not allowed. Unless:
* Adding useful information: After 6 hours
* Reposting a thread, partly or completely, the old one and all of the offers in it are cancelled (deals have to be fulfilled, of course): After 48 hours from last post
* Bumping of any kind (advantage to 2.: thread continues): After 48 hours.
Then after that:
Any bumped thread will be locked, and 2 locked threads within 30 days for rules violations will get you a 3 day temp ban. Any locked post may not be reposted for at least 24 hours AFTER it is locked.
I'm curious, as to what the rule actually is, or is it left up to mod descretion, because as it stands, ANY bumping is illegal, but 48 Hour bumping is allowed. Perhaps it could be worded slightly differently?
I had a thread locked because I "posted 7 hours prior to the 48 hour timer." Which in itself is pretty friggin silly, but whatever. When I asked "So i can bump my thread exactly 48 hours from the last post?" I got no response from the mod.
So what is it?
No bumping allowed at all. Repost your item every 48 hours.
or
Bumping is only allowed after exactly to the nano-second 48 hours after the last post.

Yes, im pretty pissy, because i hate people who take rules to extremes, but id like to know what the exact rule is, since its confusing, so i know in the future.

We take rules to the "extreme" as you put it so that folks such as yourself all follow them the same, as best as can be enforced. If we let one person bump 7 hours early then everyone uses that example to bump 7 hours early. That is how it is. The rules are posted and pretty clear. Don't make it more complicated.
You are right don't bump....Unless you meet one of the 3 exceptions. So do not bring your thread to the top if your post was the last one. If you post back to back it better meet the updating rule or the 48 hour rule. The reason we let you legally bump after 48 hour is you could easily just repost, so to save you the effort we let you bring your old thread back up top. It is not up to a mod discretion, threads with back to back posts are closed unless it meets one of the exceptions. That would be the nature of exception. If you hate us for enforcing the rules the go elsewhere. Make you own forum with no rules, and see how that goes. We have the rules for a reason as it makes everyone's life better on this forum. There are other forums with no rules or no rule enforcement and it is just chaos there.
You are just angry. Since you read the rules, it says you may repost after 48 hours (not before, like you did) or bump after 48 hours (not before, like you did) or if you have updates you may post those after 6 hours, your bump did not contain any updates. Updates must contain some significant or important information, again see the rules. It is spelled out there.
If you see someone not following the rules and it makes you upset then report them and we will close their threads.
So far the rules have that are in place now are working pretty good. We do not want to be like other places where you post a item and it stays on the front page for 20 seconds if you are lucky.
EDIT:
on a side note, if you have a better less confusing way of writing the rules, you can feel free to spend your time to write them out more clearly than we have and send it to us for review and if, in our experience, it is more clear we could edit in your take on the bumping aspect so that other folks are not confused as you appear to be. We certainly do not want any confusion on the rules.
Edit 2:
I am currently getting you and us a crystal clear understanding of what "(advantage to 2.: thread continues): "this means and will post it when I do.
EDIT 3: Have the offical on what I posted in Edit #2. It is saying that exception 3 (or the last one) is more advantagous than exception #2 since you do not have to start over, canceling offers and reposting.
Basically exception #3 allows you to bump at anytime after 48 hours.
I dont care if you take the rules to the extreme. I'll know better in the future. Personaly speaking, 48 hours to me is 2 days, so i looked at my thread, and saw it was 2 days prior to the day i was sitting in front of my computer. I didnt check the Timestamp. Oh well, crap happens.
Id just suggest you go thru your rules and make it easier to understand, so people dont come here and get pissed off when they get banned or warned early on. Or your right, they will go elsewhere, because the last thing gamers or people on the net want to do, is have to read 30+ minutes of rule banter or have to make sure they re-read the rules everytime they post so they dont get banned/warned.
You can be sarcastic all you want. This website wouldnt be here if it didnt turn a profit for someone. Making it hard for new people is never a good idea for business, and being sarcastic or not responding when they ask why is another piss poor practice.
*shrug* Im over it.

There was not a shred of sarcasm in my prior post. Not from the writer but maybe you read some into it. I tried to address your concerns.
Like I said the rules we have spent time writing up have been working for most folks. We try to continually tweak them for clarity but that all takes time, and we are not perfect.
I will put this out there again since you are so concerned; feel free to spend your time to clarify them. I, and I'm sure the east mod team, would be happy to review them and see if any of the changes or suggestions make sense. If they do we can certainly implement that clarity.

posting again without intentionally writing sarcasm (except maybe this last bit):whistling:
Eh, im pretty sarcastic myself. It was a REALLY long day when I posted the original post. I could have worded it a bit nicer, but eh, we all have those days
