Every forum needs one. Yes i can see crowding, so have one with channels.

I doubt it will be implemented. The mods wouldn't be able to hang around and moderate 24/7.

We've gotten by fine without it, and we have OT threads in several forum not to mention user groups and the ability to chat in profiles.

Even if we had a shout box, I have a feeling it would be mostly spam.

you could always employ Chatbox moderators.

I am sitting on the fence for this one. Many spam sites uses chat boxes and i do not really like it.

On the other hand i would love to talk to friends here in real time.

yeah. if its kept and moderated well. its a good thing. but if its left unchecked its a wasteland
