We need to be able to quickly grab all loot on the ground within a certain radius to our chars, just like in Hellgate: London.

That really reduced on the clickity click click clickin' and kept things going quickly.

Thats a nice idea. Especially since the drops will be exclusive to the player and not the team.

However, I don't see many people using it, especially since there will most likely be a lot of crap items that will be dropped.

Interesting.

Once you get good at it, you could pick up all, then quickly go into inventory and drop all the stuff you don't want so other players can get it.

Another thing that would reduce the clicking is if you could expand a sort of select all box across a bunch of items and then drop all of them in one go.

yeah, interesting idea. Additionally, lucky they changed the way gold is being picked up too.

When you consider my ideas for crafting then this idea makes a LOT more sense.
Check that post out too!

this would not be viable, at least not if drops remain somewhat as they are now. I was picking up only rare items at this year's blizzcon, and i still had to stop and dump out everything I was holding every 10 or 15 minutes. and characters in the blizzcon build had a huge backpack, taking the storage from 13 to 40 spaces. You wouldn't find that until much later in the game, playing normally.

Now if the "pick up all" was customizable, then sure. set it to grab rares, uniques, jewels, elixirs, runes, etc. that's the sort of feature the game should have, if not from the devs than by a fan-made UI mod. (That sort of thing was cheating in D2, since everyone was competing for the same items, but in D3 with individual drops, I don't see any real objection?)

A third party mod that automatically picks up select loot for the player would be considered botting, as the feature to automatically pick up loot (other than gold) isn't present in the original game.

The developers have said the game will not support any custom mods at all anyway, probably since it would make the game prone to exploits.

Hopefully the d3 team will implement something like that right in the game. If not, I hope some fans can find a way to do so. And yes, the d3 team has said they won't support mods, but as mandatory as good UI mods are to the WoW playing experience, I won't be surprised if their inexplicable resistance to them in D3 weakens.

At any rate, I wasn't really talking about what bliz would consider cheating, since that sort of decision is based more on corporate control and overall security issues than logical debate. I consider PickIt type tools to be cheating in MP D2, with items ninja lootable. In D3 it would simply be a convenience, and I wouldn't object to anyone using it, and would want it for myself, if only for SP play (if they have some mod scanning feature on the realms that would ban me for using it).

I agree, something to keep the pace moving and not have to stop every time to pick up items would be wonderful. I already like the auto-pickup on gold, auto-pickup on items you can set a limit to as you explained would be great and something I have no problem with because you have your own loot table now.

Diablo 3 should really have this. I remember playing dungeon siege like years back and that game had a pick up everything button. It didnt just pick everything up in a short radius but the characters actually automatically ran around and picked up everything on the screen that they could fit in their Dinventory. they also had the same tetris block inventory style (althought d3 style keeps changing)

I agree with this. I think it should be an optional addition for players if they wish to use it.

I personally wouldnt use it, but im sure a lot of players would.

And what if I have a pick all, and someone drops a lot of crappy rare just before boss dies? Will it fill my bags so I cant loot the boss untill I have got rid of the junk again?

To choose what to pick up is a nice part of the game, even when the drop is for your eyes only.

But sure, if i can disable it or set some filters it might work. Maybe I dont want to pick up automaticaly, just set a filter to see what has dropped without pressing "Tab" key. And then press Tab to see the rest? Endless of options :)

Starting with the first Dungeon Siege, virtually all the ARPGs I've played have had a button like this. You can either make the button customizable in game options, or actually have several hotkeys for different levels of items... so depending on the state of your pack and your purse you can grab blues and up, yellows and up or everything. And of course some items, like gold and perhaps one-slot things like potions, you always want.

I'd say some version of this is a must-have in this day and age.

Another popular option that I would also like to see in D2 is some way to sell trash from your pack (without a vendor) for a reduced amount of gold. Dungeon Siege had a transmute spell that turned items into gold; Sacred 2 has a purse icon in your inventory where you can drag stuff and drop it. You still get more from carting your stuff into town, but you can save a lil time and get something out of the white trash. Anything that reduces the need for town visits is a good thing imo.

Auto-pickup all combined with an instant auto-drop.

(I do not like the idea of not seeing what drops so I would like this feature to be turned on for me when playing with friends to help them out with finding gear)

This will be very useful for picking up the hundreds of gold piles dropping everywhere in some areas...

Also, there needs to be a drop-all button from inventory (not what you're wearing) and transfer all to or form stash. This will really help for moving around/trading lots of small items like pgems, runes etc.

I understand that gear will be made into 'personalized drops' but what about generic items like potions, gold, runes etc. Will all of those also be personalized drops or a free for all?
