IGN: You did mention that it's being revealed next year, and that it's someone from the previous games…
Jay Wilson: I did say that. I probably shouldn't have said that, because we're not sure that's going to be the case. It's just logical, that's what we tend to do. But it may or may not. I'm not gonna answer it, anyway… [laughs]
It fits the pattern of filling the D2 roles:
Barbarian -> Barbarian (melee tank)
Necromancer -> Witch Doctor (pets / caster / poison)
Sorceress -> Wizard (direct damage caster)
Paladin -> Monk (melee / debuffer / probably holy buffing)
Amazon -> Rogue? (ranged / melee hybrid)
The Rogue makes sense. I think a rogue could be an interesting class. I envision bow skills, quick dagger skills, and trap skills -- with poison mixed in. Quickness and enemy disabling based play.
Though on the Direct TV feed, it was mentioned that they have had the 5 classes decided for about 2 years -- but they're thinking about changing the final class. They could easily switch between types such as rogue/thief/hunter/ranger using most of the same skills. A ranger sounds pretty cool. Amazons are sweet lore, but I can't imagine a male amazon.
The rogue coming back just feels... right. Like returning home.
