I've read that +max items do not effect your kick damage, but does +% enhanced damage from jewels etc.

+max damage does not effect kicks. The War Travelers' mod, Damage+X from Grief, Critical or Deadly strike, enhanced damage vs demons/undead also do not work.

What works is enhanced damage from sources outside the weapon, like Fortitude, Phoenix, Steelrends, and ed jewels socketed in armors helms shields. Or auras like Might and Fanaticism.
