Hey everyone, I've been thinking of the whole bard situation, and I have decided to take my own stab at it. I call it the Minstrel - but the name is totally subject to change. He/She is meant to be a more sleek and fencing-like counterpart to the Barbarian.
I haven't thought of a lot of the lore, but I am thinking about having them as a small secret society that uses their positions as minstrels and court jesters to influence and manipulate the powerful to their own benefit. Few if any know of their existence, so it is not known what their true intentions are. While not adept in magic, they have developed their fine motor skills to the limit of mortal abilities.
The tree skill trees focus on skills that require precision and accuracy: Bladework (or maybe Swordplay), Vocal, and Instrumental. Because they do not use mana, Minstrels use Clarity as their energy -but it works just like mana. As they use skills, the fatigue slowly dulls their precision, so they don't have the precision to use skills when their Clarity is used up. Like mana, clarity regenerates over time. I haven't decided where any of the skills will go in the tiers, so the list is not necesarily in order. Also, some of the skills will have long cooldown times.
>The skills I have for the Bladework tree are divided in two parts: Each tier has a combat technique and a form. The forms are buffs that affect certain aspects of the Mistrel and last for X seconds. Only one form can be used at a time. The skills are:
1. Fierce Form - Increases attack dam., decreases attack speed
2. Shifting Form - Increases def. and movement speed
3. Alacrity Form - Increases attack rating and speed, decreases attack dam.
4. Channel Form - Increases max. life, clarity, and stamina
5. Fortitude Form - Decreases dam. taken and duration of negative effects
6. Disarm - Damages and disarms enemies of weapons and shields
7. Feint - Increases chance to deal critical strike, decreased dam. if failed
8. Lunge - Increases damage, lunges at enemy and returns to starting point
9. Thrust - Quick attacks for as long as button is held
10. Pirouette - Spin in place, damages all nearby enemies
Some passive skills for Bladework I've come up with are:
1. Parry - chance to deflect melee attack
2. Riposte - increases damage done to enemy after sucessful parry
3. Serrated Edge - Increases dam. of bladed weapons
4. Form Endurance - Increases duration of forms.
5. Coup de Grace - ?
>The Vocal tree focuses on using your voice to damage and manipulate your enemies.
1. Banshee Scream - Damages and scatters enemies in path of scream
2. Flesh Puppet - Slain enemies rise up and harass other enemies for X sec.
3. Lulling Hum - Slows enemies, decreases their attack dam.
4. Marionette - Selected enemy fights for your side
5. Ventriloquism - Nearby enemies focus on selected target (area or enemy)
6. Chant - Increases mana/fury/clarity regeneration of party over time
7. Piercing Whistle - missles spread and pierce enemies
>The Instrumental tree makes use of stringed instruments (lutes, lyres, zithers, etc) to attack and debilitate enemies.
1. Ballad of Blows - Close-range powerful attack
2. Concussive Wave - Damages, stuns, and knocks back enemies
3. Echo Armor - Sends out wave of damage when struck for X sec.
4. Flourish - line of damage, damage increases over time while holding button
5. Battle Hymn - Increases party's dam. and def.
6. Echolocation - Increases attack rating for X sec.
7. Discord - Decreases enemy def., enemies attack each other
I want the class to be able to be a graceful fight, not so much brute force. With parry and riposte as well as the active Bladework skills, I can see the Minstrel transitioning from enemy to enemt, dispatching them with deadly efficiency -fending off multiple foes at once because of the passives.
I'm not sure how to develop the Minstrel after this, so I was wondering if anyone had any ideas? There's alot of loose ends to take care of and I wanted some opinions before trying anything on Diablowiki.
