We all know there will be some kind of 1v1 and free for all pvp system, but what about objective based pvp?

How many of you would like objective based pvp in Diablo 3?

Could we have some examples, so as to get a clearer picture of what exactly you are contemplating, rather than a vague 2-liner that leaves us in the dark?

What do you mean by objectives? Something like capture the flag? Or something more complicated, and might require a well-coordinated effort by multiple players using an assortment of skills to pull off effectively?

Scenarios would be welcome. As of now, I have no idea how to even begin replying to your initial point. Thanks.

I am sure everyone knows what objective based pvp means, but for those who don't. It means any type of pvp where there is something to do besides killing the other players.

Capture the flag, king of the hill, sabotage, VIP, control points (both build up resources or lower reinforcements) then there are more complicated pvp that have a few of these other types rolled into one.

So to answer your question Runestar... Yes.

Scenarios could be looked at as more of a Co-op gameplay mode. Things like Horde mode. (One I think would be awesome in D3) Arena mode where you fight boss like monsters in an arena. So on and so forth

Oh Man! Oh Man! Oh Man! Diablo 3 CTF would be so cool!

Just think about how the added goal of capturing the flag would change team PvP. You can win by killing off the entire opposing team, or you can just sneak past the action and slink home with the enemy flag to win the day while your teammates act as a distraction. When the opposing team sees you stealing their flag they stop fighting your teammates and make a headlong rush to cut you off before you return to your base with the flag.

It would be cool to do this in open areas but also in dungeons where you have multiple paths to guard and maybe even normal monsters to fight off too. In a randomly generated dungeon layout you need to explore the dungeon to find the enemy flag room and all the while there could be an enemy ambush around the next corner.

Diablo is a setting in which the flag could actually have a value. For example, make the flag be a key that opens a chest full of gear that acts as a prize. Only the winning team gets to open their chest and claim whatever loot is inside by taking the other team's key (flag).

Control points and others could make for interesting changes to the way that PvP works as well.

This sort of dynamic team PvP would create an entirely different set of optimal character builds from classical team PvP. Your characters would need to be able to chase down enemy flag carriers but you would also need at least one super high speed flag carrier on your team. If played in a dungeon then you could have builds designed to trap enemies in things like slow time bubbles and then execute them or ambush them as they are exploring their way through the area.

With this sort of objective based PvP I could actually see competitive Diablo 3 tournaments being held as individual and team strategy takes on a bigger role than in ordinary PvP. With a greater element of strategy your characters equipment makes less of a difference to the outcome of the match and this allows people to compete fairly when they have different levels of wealth.

Thank you theeliminator for the first idea about potential Diablo 3 gameplay that has me truly excited.

Just a reminder: polls are messed up. Post first vote later :) Once you vote you will be re-directed to some random old thread.

Hey NP man, this is something I thought of the second they talked about PvP in D3. I really like the idea of objective based pvp. If they have objective based pvp in D3 it would make the game far more interesting.

Teleport had better be nerfed if CTF is to be viable... :whistling:

Yeah I like seeing genres mixing in as it can create a unique gaming experience. The thing I can see with this is that it could dominate the game in that people will rush their chars so they can get into this mode quickely and the PvM world becomes desolate.

The story mode will only be desolate once every player gets to 100 and has the best gear in the game, aka a very very long time. I would make it that you get the best gear in the story mode.

I want something as enfos team survival map for Warcraft 3!!!!

If anyone doesnt know how enfos works this is how:

2 teams of 4 players must defend their beacon against more and more waves of monsters.

If one player dies, he/she must wait some time to respawn (the time gets bigger as the game proceeds).

The waves get stronger and stronger, to a point that no one will be able to hold them forever.

The first team who gets overwhelmed loses.

There is a tome that allows you to interact with the enemy team, with this tome you can summon monsters that are 3 waves ahead, stun a player, damage a player, etc... you can use those skills in the tome with some cooldown.

Enfos could be a fantastic mode in Warcraft 3 but the map makers never balanced it rightly, but it was quite fun while it lasted.

Sounds like a competitive horde mode, would be cool.

This is a great idea. I immediately thought of something Alterac Valley'ish when I read this.

Objective based PvP would do a ton for D3 and seriously give something to PvP'ers that free for all cant.
