Hello,

I have never played an Assassin in D2 and I want to try it. I love the single player campaign so I think that's a great way to learn a new characters strengths and weaknesses.

So what would be the best/funniest build to do single player with? I'll probably be about lvl 35-40 when I finish normal on my own, and I'll probably never play through whole NM. If it seems like a nice character I'll probably do one on the next ladder.

So do you have any tips?

Hi,

Assassins are many peoples (including mine) favorite classes in D2 for many reasons. I played D2 years ago and gave up after playing my sorceress, necromancer, druid, and barbarian shortly after I began. When I came back into D2 my first returning character (in fact it was a guide on this site that inspired me) was a kick assassin. I've been hooked ever since.

I must admit, I had not remembered the power of my old sorceress when I first came back into the game, so the originally slow pace of my untwinked kicker didn't bother me one bit. Even now going back to a kicker at the beginning of this ladder season, I still found the build fun, and knowing now what gear I was looking for, and making a small challenge to keep me interested (pure strength) I had loads of fun.

As fun as my experience was, I would not attempt to argue that this was the "best" build for the game. Although I have never made one pure, trap sins would probably be your "best" character for going through the game since they require far less gear to move strongly through the game. I must say however that Trap assassins and Martial Arts assassins have a large difference in there feel and play style.

My tips would be to read through the stickies (they're your friend!) and try to find a build that you would like to try, then just go for it. I didn't even make mention of PS sins, or shadow sins yet. As I said, stickies are your friend, and many people on these forums can help you more once you narrow down your search.

Thank you for your reply.

I read through some of the stickies but I didn't find anyone that wasn't focused on certain gear. I'll do another run now.

I started a Assassin just now to try it out. It instantly appealed to me. It seems like a really strong character and since I've never played one it felt new.

I added some points into both the trap and the martial arts tree so this will probably not be a very good character but at least I can try the different skills.

GL... always fun to see someone new playing.. or newish... (hope I'm not being offensive) without the normal bnet accent...

Hi, assassins have few viable builds... Trapper doesn't need any tough to get gear, just few +traps skills and she is good to go.
If you want to know how people in SP forum did well with certain builds, read the pat/mat stickied thread in SPF.

Personal fave is a Phoenix Strike martial artist with a healthy splashing of Death Sentry. Synergise the fire and lightning aspects Phoenix Strike with Fists of Fire and Claws of Thunder and use Dragon Claw as the finisher. Don't forget a point in Burst of Speed, Fade and Venom helps with the killing too. Mind Blast and Cloak of Shadows keep you alive and tacking Cobra Strike onto combos takes care of your mana
