hi,

i am trying to make a kicker (riftsin actually) with pdr (physical damage reduction, both % and integer) stuff. build is a dtalon and lite traps based. equip is pdr/mdr stuff like gerkes, gladiators, vgaze etc...

my question is calculation of pdr when iron maiden'd.

for example consider i use hotspur (3-8 kick dmg) with 24lvl dtalon (%166dmg) with 58%pdr (with fade) and 82ipdr. consider i am iron maiden'd.

dmg i calculated is about 180 dmg with kick excluding elemental dmg (i am not sure if kick also transfers elemental dmg). iron maiden is around %110 dmg returned i think (not sure of this, found in forums about %25 effect against players and curse is 10th lvl).

when i kick and deal 180 dmg (180 * %50 ) - 82 = 8dmg i get total when i am IM and still kicking.

is my calculations correct? can anyone confirm this?

thanks

Iron maiden doesn't work on elemental damage as it only returns physical damage.
I suck at calculating damage though.

yes, i know that. 180 dmg i wrote is pure physical dmg i calculated (cause LCS lies to me). but the reduction calculation may be wrong.

iPDR comes before %PDR. Not sure about their interaction with IM...

%DR is calculated AFTER PDR even with Iron maiden.

IM returns 109% (due to the pvp reduction, for mercs it retuns much more damage.)

Assuming you did your calcuation right, and your kicks are max 188 damage, you will end up taking 50 damage per kick. 188-82 = 106, 106/2 = 53.

Kicks DO carry elemental damage (which makes gimmershred a neat weapon for a dtaloner.) but elemental damage is not returned via iron maiden.

I'm not sure how you got 180 dmg from hotspurs. It depends on how much str and dex you have and that's very possible to get that high even sans boots.

If you have say 160 str and 160 dex, you will have damage around 180 I think, so that makes sense.

thanks for the info about "%pdr comes after ipdr" , i didnot know that.

5zigen: how i calculated that dmg is 3-8 kick damage from hotspur and 100 str/dex and also including lv24 dtalon which gives ~%160 edmg which also applies to str/dex modifier according to arreat summit. i am trying to lower the dmg thats why , use hotspur but also try to attack 5 kicks (proc frozen orb from rift).

i appreciate any other tips to lower my physical dmg and making a better pdr build.

All Oblivion Knights in Hell cast level 10 Iron Maiden, returning 425% physical damage which is quartered against players and hirelings (i.e. approximately 106.25%). The following can negate or reduce returned damage, applied in the order in which they're listed:

Energy Shield
Bone Armour
Integer damage reduction (DR)
Percentage damage reduction (DR %)

If you cast Life Tap on your targets, 50% of your physical attack damage is always returned as life (unlike % Life Stolen per Hit, difficulty penalties and drain effectiveness don't apply): with DR 50% and DR >= 1/16 physical damage, LT's returned life >= IM's returned damage. :)

With 180 physical damage, LT and DR 50%, just DR 12 would meet these conditions; with DR 82, you could apply up to 1,312 physical damage... although each kick would return 656 damage. Returned damage is applied before returned life, so you'd always need at least 657 life to survive (being cursed with IM effectively reduces your life by returned damage + 1): if you had 2,000 life but were confident you could survive with 1,343 life or less, then you might risk applying that much physical damage.

However, you might also prefer to keep DR > 1/16 physical damage, since LT (and % LSPH) would then return more life than returned damage, which isn't the only source of damage from which you normally need to heal.
