View Full Version : Skills For Every One!
I'm just going to list a few and you tell me what you think.
Teleport (Duh)
heal
heal other
mana shield
town portal
infravision
resurrect (scroll)
remember diablo 1? you could use almost any skill if you were a high enough level but the strength of the skill is based on your class and magic level. it would be nice to see some of this return in the 3rd game.

no, it would'nt. except for Townportal. I fyou choose to be a wizard you choose him/her because he/she wields arcane magics and such. Teleport would ruin the game if all classes could use it, everything would be rushed through. Eventually.
Didn't they already nerve the rush character of teleport?
The idea is good, yet some skills just don't belong there. Teleport comes to mind. mana shield. Although I would love infravision.

None, the whole idea of classes is to give each character its unique set of skills, and even if we need two or more classes to do the same thing (i.e nullify huge damage for few seconds) each class should do it in a differernt way with differernt pros and cons.
Why can they all have a heal spell each with a different implementation?
Some skill are useful and logic for each class (town portal in DII comes to mind). Would it be a bad thing to give each class in DII a skill like town portal?
It's not like running out of townportals is that big a deal (in both ways).

NASE, I think this section addresses what you were saying quite nicely.
What pros and cons are you going to put on simple skills as a townportal (in DII, DIII townportals might be different) or a minor healing skill.
Even though in essence, the approach is correct, for some simply, basic skills, this isn't a necessity. And giving all classes some basic skills/talents isn't a bad idea ihmo.
On the other hand, it's as unimportant that missing them probably isn't a bad thing either.

Obviously the class design for D3 is already done, but I just wanted to say that I like this idea.
It worked in D1 because stat limitations made it so a warrior was best off swinging a sword and a mage was best off casting spells. D3 is auto-assigning stats based on characters which solves that problem.
Why not let a barbarian launch a fireball every now and then, he'll be limited on mana anyway. Or let a wizard whirlwind into combat, her strength and dex won't be anything great so it won't be near as deadly.
On another note, I miss res scrolls and never understood why D2 didn't have them.

yeah, no other skills should be shared other than town portal, if you call that a skill
whose to say you could not learn a skill if it was necessary in combat. perhaps one or two skills could be learned by your character to make him or her your own and increase playability. example: Mana shield skill is highly valuable to a warrior because his mana is not being used at all. its a great way to boost your life without losing much in stats or skill points. this would also allow him to have a few extra points into magic to use other skills without sacrificing life.

On healing? DR for X seconds (In d2 the pala would do this probably), +spell damage/all damage (Sorc), +speeds (Barb), stuff like that.
I personally wouldn't miss any of them.. TP not because it's basically ruled out already.
perhaps put them in scroll form, that way the wizards dont get mad.
