I like where this idea is going but I would call it the Slayer. Hunter sounds too generic. he could have a dark back story like vampire hunter D or blade and process super human strength. i think a "buffy" female character would appeal to a ton of people male and female. His melee would be formidable maybe focus on not quite as fast but very powerful attacks. Pierce the Heart! his skills would be dexterous and defensive and perry ...vital. he could draw strength from his opponents and use it against them as well as leech. and...
I am in favor of the gun!
the only reason i can think of not introducing guns is that other people are scared of being shot. but how is a gun different from another highly ranged weapon? example d1 sorc with staff of apocalypse. f***ing dead toasted warrior. example2 d2 zon magic arrow /w faith... never even see that sh*t coming! of course guns couldn't be made better than the conventional skills because of fairness but simply to deny them is wrong.
having said that, D does not need a gun. just close range shifting speed to slice you up. woah after thought. fading tele attack "shadow slash"
ps f*** hammerdins and their gaay azz hammers
