Im going to attempt to write my ideas down as i always think of good ideas then loose them as soon as i blink, well i think they are good anyway lol.

Im pretty sure this hasnt been put on the forums before, however when i tried to read up on all the character ideas the links were dead so i apologise in advance if i look like i have copied anyone.

Character Name? Something i cant think of, i keep thinking of the Norse god of mischief, loki as i think he embodies all the traits of the class im trying to come up with but that is a name not a class name.

Background: After the war against the prime evils had ended and celebrations started people soon realised that danger had not yet past when towns and villages were being raided and pillage by the prime evils hordes, The Prime evils might be banished but their scattered armies still lingered.

The villagers noticed however in the monsters midsts strange goings on were happening, A monster like figure would be seen lurking in the shadows, causing unrest and in fighting with his own kind. Ultimately when the horde did get around to attacking they were already hurt and still gravely mistrusting of each other, effectively allowing town defenders a greatly easier time defeating the horde.

Character Description:
A shapeshifter of sorts, however not in a huge way like the druid was in d2.
Has very few direct attacking skills of his own however has the ability to absorb and mimic his opponents attacks and traits and put them to good use.

Tree 1: ShapeShifting, Needs a new original name, maybe Therianthropy

This tree deals with the ability to shape shift and his ability to absorb and mimic from his enemies. What the player can shape shift into depends wholly on what he has absorbed from enemies.

Tier 1

Mimic (active): A very basic skill that allows the player to copy the attack being used against him. higher levels of mimic allow the player to mimic the entire attacking ability of the target even if the target hasn't used the attacks yet.

For example: A fallen one has whacked you with his sword, you use mimic and you gain the ability to attack with your weapon.
You have a higher level of mimic and you target the same fallen, in addition to the skill attained earlier you also learn you can now set things alight by touching them, mimicing a fallen ones torch attack even if he hasn't used it yet. Very very basic example.

See end of post for a detailed description of the mimic skill as its very complex.

Mimic Mastery (passive): Although you only copy what you see, years of practise allows you to not only copy them but to do it even better.
+set amount of damage to an attacking skill or +set amount of defense to an defensive skill. (requires Mimic)

One of their own (passive): Reduces aggro radius, tricks monsters into thinking you are one of them allowing you to get in closer for a quick kill or to sneak by unnoticed.

Monsters Kin(passive): When around monsters you gain a bonus to hit and slight increase to health regeneration when not attacking.

Tier 2

Absorb (active): When used randomly absorbs a trait of whatever you are targetting, higher levels of absorb allows for more control on what you gain.
You can have up to 3 traits at once

For Example: You target the same fallen one from earlier and absorb his fire resistant skin trait, increasing your fire resistance.
Higher level of absorb would let you choose from a list depending on the target so if you use it again on the fallen one you could pick from fire resistant skin, work as a pack trait or the small in size trait.

Transform(active): Transforms the player into a monster depending on what traits he has absorbs. Higher level of transform grants over all higher stats when transformed. Ie you absorb most fallen one traits therefore that's what you transform into.
There will be a separate post explaining the transform skill as its very detailed and complex

One of their own (passive): When transformed the same type of monster will hesitate attacking their own kind.
-monster attack rate, -monster critical strike chance

For Example: You transform into a fallen one, other fallen one and their kind will be affected by this skill but other monster types ie undead will not.

Friendly Looter (passive): Becoming among and acting like monsters has given you a first hand insight into where loot is hidden.
+chance to orb drops, + chance to item drops (more items not higher quality)

Tier 3

Morbid Anatomy (passive): Having spent so much time transformed as other monsters has given you a deadly knowledge of their weakness and soft spots.
(requires monsters kin)

Perfect Form (active): When activated monsters will not attack you unless you attack them, doesnt last forever and doesnt work on bosses/super uniques.
Requires One of their own

Transform Mastery (passive): Allows you to remain transformed for longer and increases the bonuses while transformed.
(requires Transform)

Tier 4

Trait Overload (passive): Allows you to absorb traits even while transformed, however bonuses from the traits are greatly reduced.
Higher levels reduce the penalty.

Monster Vitality (passive): Gain a bonus to health, resistances, defence and block

Way of the Monster (passive): Gain a bonus to attack, attack rate, chance to hit and critical strike chance

Tree 2: Metamorphosis

This tree lets the user have access to more powerful attacks and better stats after shape shifting and mimic-ing.

Tier 1

Weapon Mastery (passive): You have gained a good knowledge of monster weaponry and know how to use it proficiently.
+damage, +to hit chance to whatever weapon you are using when transformed

Armour Mastery (passive): same as weapon mastery just applies to armour (all armour ie helm, boots, glove etc)

Cut (active): Attempt to attack your target and cause a bleed effect on them.

Tier 2

Defensive Trait Mastery (passive) Any defensive traits currently affecting you have their bonuses improved

Offensive Trait Mastery (passive) Again same as above by with offensive traits.

Slice n Dice (active) Knowing enemy weak spots you quickly attack multiple targets leaving them in a weakened state
aswell as damage done you apply a defence reduction to monsters

Tier 3

Overall Hardiness (passive): Increases your health and resistances when transformed

Superior Reflexes (passive): Increases your speed, attack rate and block rate

Time to Die (active): You spend a few moments preparing an attack plan and readying yourself.
Huge boost to damage and to hit chance, last 30 seconds.

Tier 4

Trait Mastery (passive) Allows you access to super uniques monsters traits which are superior to normal monsters traits. Also you can now have access to more traits from all monsters

The Final Cut(active): You attack in a circle, hitting all monsters within range and dealing heavy damage and heavy bleed effect.

Tree 3: Coercion

This tree deals with monster manipulation, similar to necromancer curses.
However affects monsters only and does not help the user directly in anyway.
Also depending on the current form of the player affects how well the player can manipulate certain monsters.

Tier 1

Mad Ramblings (active): Monsters are distracted by your nonsense and suffered a -to monster hit chance.

Monsters Tongue (passive): Small chance that when transformed you will receive aid in combat from other monsters that are your transformed type.
Lasts until your target is dead or you attack the monster that is helping you.

Propaganda(active): Curse like spell, when cast lowers affected monsters defense and hit chance.

Tier 2

Seeds of Discord (passive): You spread rumours and lies throughout the monsters camp leading them to all distrust and hate each other.

Monsters have a small chance of randomly attacking each other.

Poisoned Supplies(active): Being around monsters so much gives access to their food and water supplies.
Acts similar to rabies, you target the ground and any monster that walks ver it gets infected with it and it spreads rapidly dealing poison damage.

Monster Aid (passive): Monsters have a very small chance of dropping health orbs to heal you.

Tier 3

Degrade Equipment (active): Aswell as having access to their supplies you also have access to their equipment and armour. Giving you the chance to sabotage it. (requires Poisoned Supplies)
-monster attack , -monster speed, Stacks with Poisoned Supplies bonuses

Loyalty (active): You now command some respect and can target and monster and force him to fight for you for a set amount of time.
Higher levels increase the time, not increase the number you can command.
Increase chance of working and increased time if transformed to look like targeted monster.

Seeds of Confusion (passive): You become adept at sowing lies and mistrust amongst monsters. they no longer willing to work as a team and will attack you 1 at a time, also reduces their defense as a result.

Tier 4

Grievous Wounds (active): Aswell as sabotaging supplies and equipment you gain the chance to inflict wounds on them while they sleep, silently killing a few to thin their numbers out.
Aswell as the bonuses from Poisoned Supplies and Degrade Equipment you have a very small chance of outright killing lesser monsters who pass over the patch of land you target.
(Requires Degrade Equipment)

Pack Leader (active): You have gained the complete trust of the monsters and can command them to kill anything you choose.
Works exactly like the necromancers attract curse apart from it lasts until the target is killed.

Corrupting Aura (passive): All monsters within a set radius of you receive a big reduction to all their stats

Mimic: you can only mimic 1 attack at once, a second mimic will replace the current mimic.

Transform: Being able to transform into any monster in the game would be impossible to code for so you can transform into each group ie undead, demon, animal etc etc and have 1 generic shape/form for each group

The act of transforming uses up all current absorbed traits.

Absorb: You can absorb up to 3 traits maximum, there is a big cooldown (2 minutes?) on the absorb skill so you need to pick carefully, need to have 3 traits absorbed to use the transform skill.

i realise in a couple of areas it is very close to the witch doctor but radically different in other areas. Designed to fill a debuffer/shapeshifter role.

By no means finished just thought i would get peoples opinions before i continue to refine it and improve.
Please excuse any mistakes and blatant lack of sense, i really suck at writing at the best of times
