hey i just had a few questions about fire sorcs.
1. can you break immunities for fire immune monsters (via conviction?)
2. would fire facets help with this?
3. what would be the best gear set up for a fire sorc?
checked the guides, and none of them were a pure fire sorc using meteor and fireball as main skills.
thanks.

1. No.
1. As 1.=no, so no.
3.I'll let someone more experienced with fire sorcs answer that! ;)

1. Actually... kindof... several fire immunes can be broken in Hell, but several cannot. IIRC it's roughly 50% of the various monster types...
But even when Conviction does break the immunity, the problem is the monster is still going to be left with a very high fire resistance - and unlike cold & lightning, there aren't a lot of "good" items/methods to lower a monster's fire resistance further.
<-- emphasis on "good".
So, although the answer is technically "sometimes", I mostly agree with jackthelad's response of "No."
3. I can't say from experience, but for PvM you're going to be looking for the same 3-4 things as almost any other sorc:
1) FCR
2) +skills
3) Resists
4) MF (optional)
... so basically you want the 105 FCR breakpoint for the 2nd-fastest attack possible (max-speed will cut into your damage somewhat). After that it's down to balance +skills and resists (and MF if you want it).
Here are the main items I'd build a fire sorc around:
Weapon: Heart of the Oak / Occulus / Wizardspike / Suicide Branch / Eschutas Temper (probably in this order)
Armor: Skin of the Vipermagi / Chains of Honor / Ormus Robes
Shield: Spirit Monarch
Gloves: Magefists
Belt: Arachnid's Mesh
... that would put you in range/over 105 FCR, provide a nice foundation of +skills and resists, and still leave your helm, amulet, boots, rings, charms, sockets & switch to cover your remaining needs.
If you're looking at PvP, mephistophelez's guide is definitely worth reading closely.

dear lord, please ignore jackthelad, he obviously doesn't know what he's talking about.
1. can you break immunities for fire immune monsters (via conviction?)
yes. Conviction can remove an immunity, provided the conviction is powerful enough and the immunity is weak enough. just FYI: an Infinity won't remove a lot of fire immunities.
2. would fire facets help with this?
the facets alone won't remove an immunity, but if that immunity can be busted some other way (eg: Conviction &/or Lower Resists Curse), THEN the facet will kick in.
3. what would be the best gear set up for a fire sorc?
checked the guides, and none of them were a pure fire sorc using meteor and fireball as main skills.
you didn't check the guides sticky very carefully then.

(lolz, cross-posted with sirpoopsalot: for a PvM fire sork, i'd actually recomend full-tals set and going as an orb hybrid)
thanks.
your welcome.

sorry i control+f 'fire sorc' so thats why i didnt see it.
if i use conviction on an infinity, and give my merc a reapers toll and it casts decrep, would that help lower resistances as well? is it possible to get a lower resist charge wand?
and thanks for the info guys.

Decrepify lowers physical resistance, not elemental.
You can get up to lvl3 Lower Resist charges on a wand. Up to lvl2 is shoppable IIRC.

if you're building this as a PvM 'toon, i'd seriously suggest going orb-hybrid.
i levelled my sork to lvl 97 and i REALLY don't recomend it. sure, Glacial Spike, Static and a decent merc can drag you through most places, but compared to a straight out Tals meteorber, my sork is slow (and mines a 200/142 model).

Level2 is much easier to shop for, but you can also shop for level3 charges as long as you have a level94 (or higher) character do the shopping. Otherwise you need items dropped by Hell Baal to spawn with the level3 charges (or you can try to reroll them sometimes), so shopping is a more reliable option if it's available to you.
However, in my opinion, using LR charges is a pain in the backside that's usually not worth the headache. Personally, I'd much, much rather plan my build to not need/use the LR charges - ever.
