View Full Version : Fury druids - 1handed or 2 handed weapons?

I'm starting a fury druid and was wondering what people thought about 1h/shield vs 2h. I have an ethereal thunder maul I was thinking about making botd in, but I'm worried I might not have much survivial in hell. This is a PVM build, I'd be interested in doing ubers and general farming. Getting the resists would be hard without a shield, especially if I was going to use engima for teleport. I guess I'd have to switch that for fortitude when I actually get to the place I'm going?

Just need to know if I should be putting points into dex or if it's safe to make a base dex build with only str/vit.

2 handed is great for PVM, esp with a ribcracker.

Since you can not teleport in wolf form, CoH would be a great choice for armor.

The only time you'd really use a shield is in certain PvP situations. With a 2-hander +Feral rage effect, you can leech back a ton of life, and since you can't teleport in wolf form Chains of Honour ends up being probably the best armor you could use (Apart from maybe Fortitude, although I'm non-ladder so I can't comment.)

Oh, and an eth BotD Great Poleaxe is a marvelous weapon (much faster than the Thunder Maul) so if you're a speed-a-holic like me you'll probably want to look into that.

Shield and one handed weapon, with a two handed weapon on switch.

I use Grief/phoenix with EthBoTD Thundermaul on switch.

Nah, PvM you don't need a shield. You trigger block once in a mob and you get block locked for a bit. Better to just get high FHR so on the one occasion something does enough damage to force you into it, it's for all of three frames.

The druid werewolf form has the slowest block rate and the fastest hit recovery speed in the game. That pretty much says you're supposed to take hits and not block them. You have a ton of life so the hit recovery sequence doesn't trigger very often (it only does if you lose more than 12% of your life in one hit). When it does, it only takes two frames with some FHR gear.

Meanwhile you're filling your life bulb with each hit if you have feral rage charged. So you're keeping yourself alive through tons of life leech while constantly taking hits due to your relatively low defense. Quite a reckless and ferocious fighting style, suitable for a werewolf.

The point is, use 2H weapons.

I know nothing about fury druids (made one a few ladders back with an up'd Ribby), but purely on a resale basis, if you want to make a 2h botd, go for a GPA or something else that WW barbs could use. Tho ofc if the TM is significantly better for fury, ignore me :).

for sure, two hander is the way to go.

i am a very strong advocate of the uped ribcracker.

gives you tons of Crushing Blow, Damage, IAS, and Faster hit Recovery. that combined with some lifeleech/lifetap/feral rage is an unruly combo.

Ribcracker is king of the fury weapons. Eth Tombreaver is great too but expensive and you have to get crushing blow from your gear. One thing worth noting. Grief+Lifetap+ hunger is IM proof.
