View Full Version : Cold armor for Meteorb sorc?

I'm debating whether or not to stick a single point in the first cold armor for my Meteorb MF sorc.

Pros: big armor boost, its only 1 point i.e. ~100 pts of Fireball synergy damage, it'll freeze enemies before their hit lands on me (does this make it easier to avoid getting hit-locked while blind TPing?)

Cons: Not much base armor to begin with with full Tal set, bosses' ARs are so high anyway that it doesnt make much difference, and mostly a bossrunner anyway so not taking as much non-magical damage.

I think its the freezing targets as they begin their attack animation, not after blows land, that has me the most intrigued. Has anyone tried it? Like it or not?

I know I can just get a +3 armor orb in stash, but I'd prefer to not have to prebuff every run if at all avoidable...plus, I'd get a few extra levels with a hard point since I'd get my +3 full-Tal-set bonus, which I wouldnt of course with a prebuff. I also keep Gull/Milabrega on switch for an MF boost before boss kill blows, so it wouldnt be a switch.

edit: its Shiver Armor, not Cold, that chills on attack instead of on hit, isnt it? Oh well, I could still stick 2 points into that and the prereq if it was a big enough strategic tool...

I've never really bothered before now, Tal's make me safe enough imho.
That said, i've just build an orb-it-aller to give it a try before the ladder reset, and i took Shiver Armour just to try and tbh i quite like the cool look (tals+shiver) so for me it's worth 2 points. From a min/max point of view i'd probably not bother tho. But as i'm only putting 1 into tele (not 5 as per the guide) i should still be able to max FO synergy (forgot it's name:p). So any points "lost" would just come out of Fire Mastery i think, tho i've not run the numbers as she's only lvl 77 or so.

This just makes me want to find that set lacquered plate so much more =(
it's so hard to find though... I've managed to find aldur's boots, nat's helm, and griswold's armor, tal's belt, tal's mask, tal's orb, tal's ammy all while questing, but finding elite set pieces is just so much harder =(

I put no points at all. What I do is get a staff that casts Shiver from Drognan. I have it on switch and activate it. It saves you 2 points which is what you're trying to do in the first place.

He said in his post that he has gull/milabrega on switch for +MF, so he can't have a staff/orb on switch

@VeeSe ooops....my bad. Read it too fast so I missed that one sentence.

@droid Just do it. You know you want to. It's good for defensive purposes. It can give you enough time to escape if you need to teleport to safety.
