View Full Version : New Char Idea (Fallen King)

ok, i think a good way to start this would be to first tell how it could fit into the lore of D3...

the character would be the former king of a kingdom destroyed by demons and minions and what-not... After days/weeks of battle, the king escaped death with the help of 5 or 6 of his most loyal servants/guardians. After traveling across some deserts or oceans or whatever he lands in the Tristram area of Sanctuary...

Well, that was easy.

Ok, so here's the deal:
The fallen king would be a melee character with 5 or 6 guardians. One of the kings skill-tree's would be devoded to making his guardians stronger, such as buffs, auras, damage bonuses, and the like. The player would also be able to equip each of these guardians with various weapons and armors. (p.s. i know the characters in the game will already get mercs... after purchasing a merc, he would just be like one of the crew. When a merc is acquired, it would follow along like it normally would with any other character. Actually, the guardians would essentially work the same way as mercs....)

The 2nd skill tree would probably be for the "king's" melee attacks. You know, faster hit recovery, faster attack speed, that kinda generic b.s.

Im sure there are plenty of cool things for the third skill-tree as well, but i think you get the point already.

Pros of a "fallen King" caracter:
--It would quench many people's thirst for a necromancer or a summoner.
--You would be able to customize each of the "guardians" individually, thus making your quest for good armors/weapons all the more exciting...
--It would give the option of another melee style character without just being another paly or barbarian...
--If you had four of these guys playing co-op, it would be a cool, action packed battle of an army of good vs. an army of darkness (for the bruce campbell fans out there...)
--It would be plumb rowdy in PvP. Could you imagine two of these guys with their decked out guardians going at it on the battle field? It would be chaos, lol.

Cons:
--If you had 4 fallen kings playing the same level, there would be a lot of fighting going on all over the damn place. It might be kinda hard to follow... However, i dont think it would be as confusing as multiple necros with 40 minions apiece on D2...
--People playing as the "fallen king" would think they could just tell everybody what to do

Well, let me know what you think (and remember that its all really just in good fun... I mean, im sure blizzard isnt going to read this and grab it up and put it in the game, lol) so enjoy!

I am sure that the WD will quench many people's thirst for a necro.

I think a character that has 5 summoned henchmen and 1 or 2 (not sure how many you will be able to have in D3) hired mercs would be way over powered.

Think of it this way, what would happen when you get someone that tweeked his hechmen and mercs out with the best gear?

You have an idea that might work with some alterations. it could be a strange mix of a Pally and Necro

that sounds like a great idea, particularly the story and idea behind the character, a simple and common master turned to the good side, and summons like that like mercs.

I think it could work, but I would say that the king only gets 3 guards/servants. One of them being a bow type and the other 2 being a melee.

Dude, that's such a sick idea... to have a fallen King (or queen) that can summon/resurrect guardians.... He'd be like a pali/necro.... a leader type of character.

Guardian skill tree for his guardians i guess 3 would be a good number... one swordsman, one bowman and one pole arms type guy... (tier 1, 2 and 3)

Attack skill tree: for the kinds(queens) own attacks and defenses, skills as well

and the last one could be:

Leadership skills: buffs for your party, increased speed/attack, healing, resurrect, and other good bonuses....

good idea, that'd be a sweet character,

They're not going to make an entire class dedicated to summons, let alone mercenary type summons. Blizz even said themselves that they want most of the action being in the player's hands.

This idea is cool...I call The WitchKing as a name if it appears in-game...but this class still needs ALOT of customization if itīs going to fit in Diablo III:scratchchin:

That would only be true if they stuck to D2-type summons, where you have almost no control over what your summons do. However, if you were able to give them various commands such as "Defend Me!", "Defend Him/Her!", "Retreat!", "Charge!" etc. with each of the commands tied into a different skill, the game would be much more interesting and depend on the player's skill and reflexes rather than just the hirelings' equipments.
For example, the Defend skill could boost the defense of all your guardians by a percentage, and give them a chance to knockback the enemies with every hit. You would cast this on a character or an area and the guardians would attack all enemies that come near.
Retreat would increase the guardians' speed and cause them to drink HP potions while scattering in different directions (thus breaking up enemy mobs for you).
As for Charge... imagine multiple melee units ramming into a tough enemy one after the other.

To keep the theme separate from summoning and increase player interaction, they could make it so that players start off with a set number of guardians whenever they put points into a particular skill, and then give the player a Resurrect spell which has to be cast on the guardian's corpse to recover him after he dies (instead of just summoning him anywhere as with other summons). Alternatively, restarting the game will start you off with all your guardians intact - the players can assume that their character used a more powerful Resurrection spell in the base to resurrect the guardian (like the one used on your character by the townsfolk in D2 when you died).

Good idea, and the class does sound like it could be cool.

However, the major problem I see is scaling of the minions. It's already a big problem to scale just 1 minion in most games (i.e. mercs in d2 or pets in WoW). To have 6 minions, with the addition of them all being able to equip a lot of different gear sounds like it would present a major problem, ending up with the minions either being underpowered without great gear and balanced with uber gear, or balanced with okay gear and overpowered with the best gear.

this is a really cool idea. I like the thought of having a couple of bodyguards and being able to furhter customize them.

the question I have is what happens when they die? Having a ressurection spell would work...you might need to have them be "ghost" bodyguards not able to rest in piece until they right the world that they failed because of the destruction of their kingdom.

this would benefit it in a couple of ways: First would be that you could ressurect them like skeles to the necro, not needing a corpse of a dead guard, that seems like a big hold up for me.

the other benefit would be if you equip them and they die, you lose the gear. I know this may take away from what you were trying to get at, but if you just let them wear whatever with no penalties, lets face it, they wouldbe over powered at some point. there has to be some risk/reward.

what do you think?

great idea though, id play the class

WitchKing is stealing ideas from Warhammer, seeing as the WitchKing is the head of the dark elves (?). Second, you have the problem of gender. Third, you can't really enchant your henchmen since the Witch Doctor already has that with his own minions. Fourth, Bad Ash makes a good point of overpowered or underpowered pieces of junk. Fifth, I don't think the idea of buffs are going to make it far for a party and the barbarian already has that. 6th: Do your research. 7th, why the heck would a king know how to do all of this and what's the deal with the henchmen since they would probably know how to fight already making a weak character with strong bodyguard that sounds suspiciously like the necromancer. 8th, what's wrong with one of the henchmen being a mage that dishes out damage, heals, or buffs? (Contradicted myself, but oh well. 6th point vs 8th)
