View Full Version : Read it twice: When will we know when Diablo 3 will be available?
No, I am not asking for a launch date. I am just wondering how early Blizzard will announce D3 before it actually is available. What do you all think? 1 month before? 3? 6? A year? What is the standard? Maybe someone who has been waiting for Blizzard titles before knows?
Maybe it's a stupid question but I just want to know the approximate time I have to get my rig together once they make the announcement. Can't have it half-done when D3 arrives, now can I? :D

We'll know when we'll know Diablo III will be available when we know when we know Diablo III will be available.

I think Blizzard will announce D3 in June of 2008 ;)
SC2 was told it will be out 2009 like 2 months ago and its projected to be a holiday release at the EARLIEST. use that as a basis

You clearly misunderstood him :D
@ OP: The goal Blizzard strives for is no official announcement if the game won't possibly come out in a year after. In the past releases were more close to 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 years after announcement ;)
To the release-date: Nothing is known. There's a rumor around for a while that a december-release is possible (with an open-beta in september) which just don't want to die out, and another one, claiming that the release will go out before even beeing announced to surprise the fans (thus no beta, 'cause it would alert ... ... everyone?!?)
Only rumors though. And all demented by Blizzard so far...
Thanx for the replies everyone. Especially usufruct. You really got my point.
I probably wasn't clear enough though, with English not being my mothertongue and all. Let's try again. :)
Since previous games have been announced (right word?) about three years before they have come out, a release (correct?) will probably occure before June 2011. Anything else is just too much guessing.
This is not what I am asking though. Let's assume the game will be available in stores on June 29th 2011. When would they...release(?) the... launch(?) date? January 2011? June 2010?
In other words, WHEN will they tell us the final date it will be available? :)

I guess about 3 to 6 month before release. But don't ask me when that will be :D
:thanks:
Thanx Silverfang, that's what I was guessing too. And don't worry, I wont ask. :D
Although I really hope its less than 6 months. As long as there is no definitive date, then I can wait. But if I know it will be out in 6 months, those 6 months would be the longest 6 months in my life. :D Odd isn't it? :)
As long as it is more than 2 months, I believe I will have enough time to get my rig in working order. :)

Typical Blizzard answer to release dates...
It's done when it's done. One of the only developers that does not give release dates.
I think Blizzard will announced D3's release date sometime next June, latest by Blizzconn 2010.

They usually announce a release date very soon after the beta closes, so we'll probably know around then.
(I understood your question.)

One of the only developers that does not give release dates. As a gamer AND bit of a programmer I prefer to keep it like that, if you're a company making games sooooooooooooooooo many people wait for it's rather lethal to give a release date and then end up with problems that could result into pushing back that release date...
No release date known = dev's can work without being rushed trying to push for a certain date
It'll be out when it's done! :p

It'll be done when you set a date! :p
As a bit of a programmer, I'm surprised you're not familiar with things like feature creep and overperfection. No human work is ever perfect, at some point you have to get it out the door.
Well, I guess you don't have to. Duke Nukem Forever has been in development since 1997, when we were playing the Hellfire expansion for the first Diablo.
Probably when the game goes gold you'll have a month.

I work in IT myself and I try to keep my time lines as vague as possible for the users... unless of course the client sets hard dates and we have no choice but to get it done.

I work in editing (I edit stories and books).
Yeah. No such thing as a "vague" deadline for me. :p
If we didn't have deadlines, we'd never get anything done.

^^ which is exactly why D3 hs been in and out of production since 2000 lol

Surely Blizzard should still be able to give us a rough idea of when they think it'll be released, at the current schedule they're working at of course. They could even say that it's just a vague idea and for people not to get their hopes up. Don't know about anybody else but I wouldn't be majorly disappointed if the game was set back, so long as it wasn't something ridiculous like a year or more.
