View Full Version : What will you name your Witch Doctor/Why?
Name: Skulls
Reason: The song skulls by The Misfits, and the Witch Doctor has a lot of voodoo paraphernalia, most of them being shrunken heads and skulls. I love the aged-wilted physique, it makes the WD seem a lot more potent knowing an old man can summon the dead, and biblical-style plagues of locusts and toads.
Ugonjwa, which means sickness (as in "plague") in Swahili. :)

Heh. That's how I usually name my characters too. I use a word related to the character, but in a different language. Usually I use Old Norse, but an Old Norse word wouldn't fit a Witch Doctor. But Swahili is a very fitting language. I'll probably use a Swahili word too. Maybe Mzuka, (spirit), Mganga (doctor) or Mchawi (witch).

Probably Dr. Feel Food if I can get my hands on the name. That Mötley Crüe song fits the theme in both name and actual subject matter. I imagine a lot of people will be going for it. Either that or some other (in)famous doctor from history or literature.
Yeah, I agree with Mantis on the Docs idea.
Probably Dr. Frankenstein (unroginal me ^^).
House, just because the show on TV comes up when I think of the Witch Doctor.

Doctor Horrible
Just because that was hilarious, and Demo's WD name sparked the idea.
Barbarian: Terry Tate
Awesome.
Naming your Barb after the Office Linebacker is a brilliant move. Kudos to you, sir.
May I ride your coattails and name my Barb Courtney Cate? I smell a collabo.
Krenksla
It is the lithuanian translation of the name of a character in the Black Company series - an old man from the deep jungles.

First, I thought "cool". Then, I looked up the word lettuce, found out it is a plant and now I don't know what to think! http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/style_emoticons/default/ahhh.gif

Obviously, Sideshow Bob!!!
I can't take the WD seriously anyway, so why not go with it? I can't help but chuckle at the thought of Kelsey Grammer singing "Ooo eee, ooo ah ah ting tang Walla walla, bing bang..."
Naming her KillerMother after the phenomemon of homicidal females we know from tribal socciaties.

I will name him Queequeg, after the savage harpooner in Moby Dick. I just love the name.

A bit off-topic but the funniest character name I've seen by far was when a friend named a mule JUSTIN_TIMBERLA (the whole name didn't fit, making it even funnier).
I'm gonna name my witch doctor Hiromant. It's an old word for someone who can predict your future by looking at your hands.

I'll think I make a female and male Witch Doctor.
I'll focus on the plague skill tree. Names will be Cholerius_GoC (with _GoC being my clan tag) for the male Doctor and Choleria_GoC for the female one.
Cholerius_GoC
Choleria_GoC
Dr. Gausswaffle
reason: Gausswaffle's my handle, and WD is a doctor
mine will be a Nobel laureate, of course
if periods aren't allowed in names, then GaussWaffle MD is an alternate
ill logic

Spirit in Haitian mythology. Cool bc it sounds kinda like marionette, and this WD will be a summoner, and also its a female which I'll probably play instead of a guy.
Imagine my surprise when I discovered the villain for the new Disney movie, The Princess and the Frog, is a voodoo practitioner.

Rashiminos

Sardon (M) or Gliovala (F)
Various entities in Rash's expanded universe.
Possible Name Inspirations:
Bilashi - Swahili "For No Reason"
Reason: I have no reason...or do I?
Buibui - Swahili "Spiders"
Reason: I like the "zombie vomiting spiders" idea
Hala - Swahili "Halo round the moon"
Reason: Makes me think about the "Unformed Land" and the WD's "Ghost Trance"
Kwasi - Swahili "Sunday born"
Reason: Made me think of the Poem Solomon Grundy. Then I thought about the DC comic villain. Which makes me think about zombies. Zombies make me think about...
I will probably take the above names, come up with a list of possibilities. I want something that sounds kinda silly but has a deeper meaning.
Right now I am trying to find something like Kwahalabui, Kwhalbui, Khalabui...work in progress.
I want to put together Hala and Buibui together. Together it makes me think of the song Spiders by System of a Down (the only song I actually like of theirs). I might drop the Kwasi aspect...hmm...thoughts.

I don't understand languages where the same word can mean "hurtful" or "rude lettuce." I can kind of understand hanzi languages like Chinese/Japanese, where they're stuck with inefficient ideograms and therefore each of them has to mean like 15 things in different contexts. But a language comprised of Latin characters?

Hurtful = causing injury, detriment, or suffering.
Rude = offensive in manner or action.
Krenken = hurting someones feelings intent on causing them psychological discomfort.
Could be that my understanding of these two words is incorrect.
Mbopa.
He's one of the main characters in "King Solomon's Mines" and most of all the name sounds cool.
