View Full Version : There WILL be a vampire class
This could go in char suggestions, but I want to hear the thoughts of people here.
I posted a long post awhile back about a vincent char from FF7 (it actually got blown up into a "no guns you noob" thread, but regardless of guns, does anyone else feel fairly confident there will be a vampire class?
Main evidence is there IS vampiric attributes on enemies.
Jay Wilson has said both of the remaining classes will be new classes.
A Vampire class could cover a ton of different classes. Leeching, long range, assasin, shapeshifting, there are a LOT of possibilities it could take the place of other chars for.
Anyone else agree/disagree? I think if done right this could be a pretty cool class
Yes but vampires don't fit the lore, they could marginally be put in as a monster. But having them as a hero character that fights evil is so backwards, and stretching the lore too much. This game is around angels/demons/humans, not angels/demons/humans/bloodsuckingvampires.
Here is the big thing tha says no to this. Vampires are not human, and Blizzard already said all heroes will be human.
Vampires are still a possibility because Werewolves are in Diablo. However, I doubt they will be a class for Diablo 3.
It doesn't matter if it's evil fighting evil; the necromancer is evil because he practices necromancy and so are vampires because of their bloodlust. In other words it doesn't matter if their evil. I know some fantasies try to make them look good, but in reality they're evil and they never turn out that good anyway, when a game tries to make them look like the good guys.

A lethal blow.
Yea, they won't be heroes, but at the same time I won't count them out as possible future monsters.
The they dont fit into the "lore" isnt really a viable arguement. Blizzard creates the Lore...they can change what they want to or add what they want to to make it work.
Its similiar to the druid. Does a Wolf or Bear changing human make sense in an angel and demon world? Not really, but they made it work. (Any Lore you quote to support the druid was created for the druid most likely keep that in mind).
Also, the word "Vampire" might have been taken too literally even by myself. It doesnt necessarily have to be a full blown blood sucking bat vampire. It could be a demon of sorts, or someone with vampiric abilities (a.k.a. LEECH). There are ways to make it work
There WILL NOT be a vampire class.
He doesn't necessarily mean a vampire class, but someone who uses some vampire like abilities.
necromancers aren't 'evil' in Diablo. Vampires already exist in d2, they're the enemies with a cold leech melee attack, meteor and fireball. They won't be a playable class in D3.
There WILL NOT be a vampire class.
haha touche sir.
And I am not 100% confident in it, but there are hints that it could happen. (as well as other classes im sure).
Agree to the guy who says not a vampire but someone who uses vampire abilities.
Again the Good vs. Bad thing can be straightened out in the lore. I am not saying the Necro was evil (think that kind of was some angst from another thread brought into this one).
but if we go off of enemies using skills, Nithilak used corpse explosion and revive, and all those act 2 guys summoned skelles. so why would "vampire like" enemies = no vampire class?
So you are thinking along the lines of say a shadow priest from wow with skills like vampric embrace?
Necromancers aren't evil in Diablo? But, necromancy is evil magic. I don't believe there not evil. They're just the lesser evil fighting the greater evil. Their purpose for why they would want to fight Diablo is their own business. Not necessarily to save others and defend the world.
If you do have lore that supports them fighting for a good purpose than I'd take back what I said and admit that I was wrong. I just can't imagine them being good.
Update: There IS NO lore.
Only annoying make believe that needs to be workedaround.
Why the hell do people think every game needs to ship with it's own bible.
I thought what i said would of ended this. Maybe i was i was not very clear.
Bliazzard said all heros would be human. not elf, not dawrf, not demon but human.
Vampires are undead creatures, a type of demon, theare not human.
Therefore Vampires will not be a class
there is no hint toward a vampire being a class, there nothing but stuff thats so says no to the idea!

lol?
just cause you say so doesnt make it the end of a discussion dude.
A human with demonic or vampiric abilities. there ya happy?
And no, WoW's vampiric abilities would not translate to D3 or D2 or D1 so no. I have a lvl 70 shadow priest so I can understand what you meant but no. Use your imagination theres a lot of ways it could work.
I would hate to be Ishtor when the Human Vampiric class is announced in 6 weeks!
i will eat my words but i doubt for more than the reason i said, WD already is taking the spot for the dark charcter spot.

how is the witch doctor dark?
I am 90% certain that there will be a "dark" character that we dont know of yet.
Arcane knight (look at my response in witch minus the doctor)
Unholy Paladin?
Dark knight? something like that.
I am more confident that there will be a dark character than I am there will be a vampire class
Zombie Walls, summon demons how are those 2 spells not dark?
Flaming skull, summoning a plague of insects, should i go on.
i know just because i say it wont end the thread, but here is the thing, there is no ducumented proof to what you are claiming, there is no hints, there is no lore, there is nothing! Vampires could fit in the diablo world i guess, but it would not be a hero. This is not buffy the vampire slayer where a vampire has a soul due to a gypse curse.
other issues this is really in the wrong section, and has already been discussed inthe propper one. No effence for you, but a good vampire is horrible far fetched, and not a good idea at all. there as much to back this up as an alien race being a hero. it is not going to happen.
someone in another tread pointed out the color wheel Magic the gathering used, which is heavily based off D&D, which diablo is also based off, and it has 5 major roles.
red
blue
green
black
white
that is the same number of how many classes that will be in the original game.
vampire would fit int he black, but this is already filled by the WD.

or the WD could be green cause they are tribal based and jungle based. Voodoo is different than demonic.
Also, who says theres going to be a white? The Paladin was the white (lol?) last game and he isnt coming back. They already ripped off the sorc with the wizard, and then emphasized that the next 2 classes will be completely original. White isnt guarunteed either.
You are doing exactly what we are doing: Guessing and imagining ideas that may or may not be in the game. welcome to the thread!
the difference i am listening to what blizzard has told and shown us. just because the WD is related to the jungle does not make him green. Vodoo is evil which is dark. Your right though we are not garanteed they are following the color wheel. But there is no way a vampire is going to be a playable hero.
The thing is this thread really gives me a head ache, agin wrong forum, would be nice if a moderator would move this to the correct spot. you guys said they are hinting toward this. what are the hints? i would like to know.
I already stated fact that blizzard said all heroes would be human, so a va,pire would not fit into this. In basic Speculization there is a Dark Charecter, WD are primative and associated with the jungle, but the are ritualist and prastic the dark art of vodoo. The most common vodoo is associated with plague disease and pain, which to me is very dark and evil like. Like the necromancer is is a stretch to have the WD to be a good guy, but i am sure witht he lure they can back this up.
Please share what backs up you theory instead well they hinted towards it?

Not only are vampires evil AND undead, they are about the MOST evil of all known monsters. This creates a big problem if Blizzard tries to put some sort of good guy spin on it.
The necro was fighting for the forces of light in d2 and this seemed VERY forced and contrived. It became very akward to see skellies enjoying a paladin's holy auras. We had to keep reminding ourselves that the necro is supposedly a good guy, but we all knew in our hearts that a necro and paly working together was ridiculous and made little sense at all.
I would hate for a similar akward situation to arise in d3.
And, I don't recall if this is true, but isn't leech either going away or being nerfed bigtime for d3?
I think a vampire class could be pulled off, without any lore issues, if you view them more as humans with a slight mutation or virus infection, that grants them some other abilities and bloodlust (not necessarily for human blood). "The family" in fallout 3 springs to mind.
They would still be humans (sort of) but perhaps not fully trusted or accepted. Likewise they would not be considered demons and would still want to fight to protect sanctuary.
However blizzard like really strong archetypical names. You hear the name and you immediately get an idea what that character is going to be like. A Druid is expected to be close to nature for example and an assassin is expected to lurk in the shadows laying traps and all that. Vampire on the other hand is so strongly connected to the traditional view of an undead being that I doubt they would ever use something like that. Daywalker is really the only thing I could find somewhat plausible.
If I cant think of an archetypical name for a class there probably wont be one. But then again i might just be tired and my brain might not be working at the same capacity as the guys/girls at blizzard .
