View Full Version : I don't know what to do with my Boner!
Hee hee. I am of course talking about a bonemancer. My first char ever was a necro, and after raking together some gear from baalruns on my other chars, i was encouraged to start one. He's level 80 at the moment, and i'm having fun with him.
The tree is fairly straightforward (or it seemed so to me), maxed bone damage spells and bone wall for synergy, working on bone prison. Dropped a few points in curses to get Life Tap for the friends.
Now, here comes the question. I've no idea what gear to go for.
Here is what i have at the moment, scraped together from runs:
Death's Web for the skills. Got a wizzy too, i'm not sure which i like more.
A shako with a Io rune in it.
+3PnBskill amulet
Homunculus
Trang gloves and armor (Hoping to get an eni sometime, i know it does me no good)
Nagelring and a Dwarf Star (Dunno what to get here at all)
Arach
War Travelers due to lack of anything proper.
A torch and an Anni, both 20 resist so i have a little there.
As you can probably tell, my resists aren't the best. But i assume at least Homunculus can't be all wrong, and i do like my wand and belt. Any comments on gear would be very welcome though! What i thought i would need would be lots of FCR. Should i ditch the wand and all those skills? And what armor should i get?
Thanks in advance!
You did not write most important aspect - are you going to use your necro PvP or PvM.
Nagel suggest that PvM but Homunculus looks weird in this kind of build.
Bone necro is my favourite PvM character - keyhunter, MF etc. Just labourer.
Unfortunatelly all usefull synergies + important skills are avaliable at lvl 103 or 106 :D
To make him effective you need 2 items - 1st Eni (easier to get) 2nd good wand for White. White wand let you save few skill points. I've paid Ist for almost perfect IMO + BS +revieve (most important), + decrep. Revieve need minimum 4 skillpoints wasted, Decrep min 2 pts. Both skills are very helpfull vs bosses. You can have great damage but if you fighting boss who move, only few of your spears get him. Revieves make him staying in place and all your missiles get target. Decrep + clay golem + cold (appears often with revieve damage) makes most bosses unable to attack. For example Baal does not teleport, summon clone and his cold weave is visible but does not affect you nor your minions.
Next important thing is FCR. 75FCR is minimum. Then if you are going to make PvM character forget about Homunculus. Spirit is better.
My necro is lvl 90 atm and is very effective. My gear:
Shako
Eni
Arach
White
Spirit Monarch (low FCR) then I need FCR ring to get 75.
Magefist (+ fire skill is added to CE what is more important then curses)
2skill amu (no FCR)
10FCR + res ring/ res ring
Torch, anni, 2 PB skillers, life, res, MF charms
Skills:
Maxed BSpear
BSpirit
BWall
BPrison
Teeth maxing atm
1 CE (lvl 26? 9,6 range) - more would be better but there is no skill to sacrifice (except summon resist)
1 BArmor
1: clay, GMastery, summon resist (by accident :) )
1 AD, IM (prereq) LT (sometimes save your merc)
His BS damage is 4K. 1,5K life and about 800-900 HP bone armor (can survive 3 Nihla CE what give me enough time to recast armor).
Magic immune monsters can be found in Kurast temples adn this can be a proble. Another magic immune monsters are Horadrims, bbut they are easy, because they always are surrounded by skelies - easy to kill and CE do the rest.
His most important work is keyhunting. By accident I discover best revieves - wraith/ghosts from Horazon Sanctuary. It is hard to explain with my English, but when you tele they immediatelly go all directions like rays of the star surrounding you with phisical immune ring (I have some video driver bug and cannot record clip). Then my keyrun is done following: Demonolog/Summoner (I do not know how he is called in your language) revieve some wraiths. Second Nilhathak. Later Baal (wraith die about second monster weave). Revieves from second, third and fourth weave help me kill Baal. Last is Countess Baal minions revieve die usually when I kill countess, depends how fast I find tower.
Comparing to Hammer, necro BS does much less damage, but it has 100% (!) piercing attack, then I prefer Necro. CE, curses, revieve and straigh missile direction make him more effective then palladin IMO.

ok i haven't made a bonemancer yet so i can't help you out, but i have to say this thread title is so full of win. :jig:
@Decoy: I saw it somewhere a while ago, the term, and decided to adopt it. ;>
@Shuy: Thanks for all the help! Your english is perfecly understandable. And yeah, he's PvM. I'm poor at pvp. I'll try to get my hands on an enigma, and if i can't i'll just snatch it off of my ele druid. The White wand would be the hard part i presume, so i guess i'll have to make do with the Death's Web for now. At the moment my bone spears do about 2-3k damage, and i'm already seeing enemies drop at decent speeds. Also i never honestly thought Maggot Lair would be this fun.
I never knew that the +fire from Magefist was added to CE. Thanks for the heads up, i'll be blowing stuff up hardcore.
Last, but not least, since i have all of the following: Bramble, Death's Web, TO gloves - would it be a waste to not make a poison necro of sorts as well? ;)

You are right. You have Arch then you need only 2 Poison Facets and poisoner is ready.
Anyway poison necro is for fun or PvP only - no tele, poison effect after 9 months. If you need PvM worker "boner" is better, fast and efective - real Long Dong Silver.

You can easily farm Eldritch the Rectifier with Poison (Gift) Nova
