I don't know if this is possible already in some way that I'm not aware of: Reconfigure what we're doing with the left & right mouse button to a key on the keyboard.

I suffer from RSI (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Repetitive_strain_injury) in my right arm/hand from clicking. Remapping stuff to the keyboard so i can do it with my left hand has helped my a lot in other games (and general windows). But apparently it's impossible with diablo 2. Please add this feature.

Or at least don't ban anybody who uses 3rd party software to achieve the same result...

You're right; it doesn't seem to be possible to change the attack controls, at least not with the normal Options configuration screen. Very odd.

you could use one of these

a friend has an older mode, im pretty sure that it can map keys to mouse buttons

There is software which can map anything to anything, but I'm not sure how in-depth we can go about it here.

@ffejrxx
I don't believe in buying hardware to replace software. I have this keyboard:

The two buttons below spacebar would be ideal for replacing mouse buttons, but you can't map them to anything (they back and forward for webbrowsing) with the microsoft software.

@Oscuro
Exactly, I do not want to get banned.

It's really odd there is no way to put attack/walk/pickup on the keyboard - w and e would be nice for that.

Also, has anyone tried playing diablo on a notebook touchpad yet? I guess that would help there, too.

Sorry if this sounds dumb, but have you considered buying a left-handed mouse?
Or wouldn't you be able to hit keys (for selecting spells/drinking potions etc) with your right hand?

under mouse properties
start -> run -> main.cpl

you can swap right and left mouse buttons

I get pain from keeping mouse buttons pressed (any of them). In the meantime, I found a nice piece of software so I can use capslock for leftmousebutton and leftshift for rightmousebutton. (somewhat funny when stacking up potions: press both shift keys.) Doesn't hinder chatting and is generally very nice.

The script could be used for other pursposes I suppose so I'm not going to post it.
