View Full Version : Best character to combine with summoner necro?

Hello!

The thing is, Im gonna start from 0 with a friend on online mode and we want to get through the whole game together. He is going to make a summoner necromancer, and Im not sure which class to pick up since I don't really have any preference, and I'd like to find one that fits well with the summoner. For example: not spending much points in protection since I'll already have a whole army of skeletons in front of me and such.

So that's the question, which kind of character can take more profit from the summoner and at the same time benefit him? (keep in mind that we start with no gear at all).

Thanks you in advance!!

Concentration/Blessed Hammer Paladin for extra damage for all skeletons + magic damage from blessed hammer for the physical immunes.

Fanatacism/Zeal Paladin for faster attack and extra damage for all skeletons.

Any Barbarian with maxed Battle Orders and or Shout for lots of extra life and or defense.

Take your pick. If you're planning on doing the entire game through hell, I would go with the Hammerdin partner.

If you're able to get someone to fill each pair of shoes, you'll probably have an awesome party. The barbarians and paladins might not be able to tank or stand up to every enemy, but they can always hang back and let the skeletons do the dirty work while they provide their benefits to the party.

Oh I wasn't sure whether such spells would affect the skeletons or not.

But Im afraid that as a barbarian (specially with newbie gear) the necro would take waaay more exp than me and I'd be left with a lower level the whole time, so perhaps a hammerdin would fit better to deal more massive dmg.
(what I just wrote is very likely just non-sense but thats the way I feel it xD)

Thanks for the replies anyway,

I'm pretty sure the necro would get a bit more xp, but being in a party you would still get shared xp. Exactly how much more the necro would get, I am not sure.

Hammerdin is probably a good idea either way.

Problem is that hammerdins, and paladins in general, can get very gear dependent. (so can barbs... well, every character except summonmancer gets expensive, but I digress...) There are several guides here on how to build budget characters, and I do believe a budget hammerdin is doable, you will just have to remember that positioning is everything since you will be lacking teleport from enigma.

you could also make another necro to balance things out. (For example, if he goes all skelly warriors, you could go skelly mages. or even poison or bone if you want to do your own damage). Basically the necro will take care of himself. Pick what you're going to have fun with (and your merc can help his minions. if he picks might, prayer will probably be the most helpful and vice versa. by the way 'Insight' makes prayer heal you double as meditation gains the prayer synergy)

Otherwise, Paladins with physical boosting auras will help a lot (concentration/fanaticism) as people have already mentioned. I can tell you from personal experience that War Cries help a summon necro out a lot too.

Build a Fanaticism/Zeal paladin...your aura will provide a boost to his skellies, you'll looove the amplify damage, there are no gear conflicts, and it's dead easy to gear up a zealot with items that fall on the ground. Also, a fanatic zealot can really tear bosses apart, addressing a skellimancer's main weakness.

Other possibilities:
-Frenzy barb: BO/Shout/+1 skills; scales with amp damage; does not share gear.
-Tiger Strike/Dragon tail assassin: easy to gear up; scales with amp damage; does not share gear.
-Wolf druid: scales with amp damage; oak; does not share gear.
-Bow or melee enchantress: scales with # of minions; does not share gear; boosts skeleton damage.

Really any character could work, but I'd avoid:
-another necromancer; the second player adds nothing with curses (and non-skelly skills are weak untwinked). Bad option!
-another caster; why fight over items?
-any build that relies on specific or good gear.

Best Character to fight ubers is a Paladin with a high level of salvation. This blocks the only thing that could kill your guys. Guys alive = dead ubers. They would have positive resists

I couldnt think of anything that would be more useful. hammers flying around is just annoying. paladin should just sit there and shut the hell up.

no lamerdins.

maxed Salvation 20 pts +3 all weapon, Griz armour, shako, +3 defense ammy, very low on the charms or fanciness, Spirit shield, he would have like 112-115 Res all

WITH A RADIUS OF 52 YARDS

could stand in the corner and have nice cup of stfu. Thats what paladins are made for.

they would do ubers nonstop.

Thanks for the replies. So far looks like the zealot is the best option. I'd pick it if I hadn't already started...

Atm Im going with a summoner/fire druid, summoner so I can benefit from their curses and fire to take PIs, plus my siprit boost his skeletons. Im not sure if its the best way, but so far its being great fun.

if you're playing Soft Core, I'd go Heart of Wolverine. Hardcore would probably demand Oak Sage though.
