Insight golem/merc setup

I just started trying an insight golem so my merc could use infinity. I have a level 91 mf fishymancer. I ran my normal mf routine and everything was going well. Then I got to baal and was shocked to see my merc's life quickly depleting. My merc never would get below 3/4 life vs baal when he used insight and I had clay golem. I started thinking what was the problem and figured it must be not having the clay golem slowing down baal. I went back in and used decrepify instead of amp damage and that kept the merc alive. I tested back to amp damage and he started getting owned again. The good news is the iron golem never came close to dying, even when the merc did. I made the insight golem in a bill. Of course, I have enigma to tele him in line.

So what do you guys think? Is it worth using infinity with the iron golem if I need to use decrepify rather than amp damage to keep my merc alive vs baal? Could I tweak my merc's setup to help him?

Right now, my merc rolls with the Infinity in an eth great poleaxe, chains of honor in an ebugged armor bringing it to 1800+ defense and for the helm I've been switching between guilluame's and vamp gaze. Usually I tele to baal with the vamp gaze to try to save the merc from IM, then I switch to guilluame's once I get to the throne room waves and baal. So he was using guilluame's when he died. Neither the gaze nor guilluame's are socketed. I've been thinking of putting either ber or cham in one.

Ber sounds like a good plan. Make sure you got some insights handy in case your golem poofs on you.

Think I should give a ber'd vamp gaze a try and see if that can keep him alive while using amp damage vs baal? Should I just stick with guilluame's and use decrepify? Would a ber'd andariel's visage be better?

I don't get it... what's wrong with using Decrep? honestly, for bosses decrepify pwns.

agreed, bosses are what Decrep is for. If you're sacrificing ~50% Slow from your clay golem, adding 8% extra DR to a helm isnt going to make up for the increased DPS.

Either Decrep with Infinity and just toss him a couple purples if need be, and accept that its the price you pay to have Conviction, or give him a Kelpie Snare so he turns into a human gumby :)
