View Full Version : Making or buying Grief..
Im thinking about getting a grief phaseblade for my pvp hammerdin and i have a few question:
1. Should i buy one or make one myself?
2. Does it have to be made in a pb? The dex req is pretty high, wouldnt a crystal or dimensional blade work too? Smite doesnt count weapon dmg does it? I havent seen a single dimensional/crystal grief anywhere so there must be a reason...
3. Should i put 1 pt in fana for smiting?
4. Is it really viable to smite on a hammer when u have grief? How much damage am i looking at?
Thanks guys.

1. don't think there's a right or wrong answer here
2. you could theoretically put it in a crystal or dimensional blade...but nobody likes doing that for 2 reasons: it won't be indestructible like a pb and kinda counter-intuitively, smite drains weapon durability...so repairs will be a pain. secondly, the base speed of 0 on a xtal or dimensional is much slower than that of a pb, which has a base speed of -30
3 & 4. i don't pvp, so i dunno...someone else will help you out there. if for some bizarre reason you go with a grief crystal sword or dimensional blade, you will undoubtedly need fanaticism for some IAS.
1. Depends on your overall gear and budget, making it yourself costs you at least 2 hrs (on west) but you might be lucky and get a high roll. A low roll usually sell for less than the runes needed to make them.
2. Phase blade is a weapon with -30 base ias thus easier to reach smite breakpoints. If your hammerdin has max block, the dexterity should be enough to wield a phaseblade.
3. I don;t know
4. Grief makes smite do considerable damage even with 1 point spent on it. There's a guide about 1-point smite uber, and some calculations there.
Well i got one more question, ive got a 382 grief now but when i put it on my smite dmg is actually lower then with my hoto... is that a display error or?

yes to 1 point fanat. its the best way to get a 6frame smite and maintain 75%fcr breakpoint.
last time i checked i think it did half the damage a pure smiter would. somewhere around 3k(or 500 pvp damage) but it was a pally with 4pcombs and 14points in holy shield. someone with max dr would reduce that to 250 damage per hit so it's really just for amazons and anyone with heavy minion stack to knock them out of summons.
1. Should i buy one or make one myself? Depends on your budget.
2. Does it have to be made in a pb? The dex req is pretty high, wouldnt a crystal or dimensional blade work too? Smite doesnt count weapon dmg does it? I havent seen a single dimensional/crystal grief anywhere so there must be a reason... PB doesn't have durabilty which means you never have to repair. And it's got [-30] speed.
3. Should i put 1 pt in fana for smiting? Yes. You'll gain max smite speed using this.
4. Is it really viable to smite on a hammer when u have grief? How much damage am i looking at? It is very viable. It's also damn useful for charging. Sorcs for example are hard to beat with hammers, but with grief you can just charge 'em to death.
