View Full Version : Keyrunning question

Morning!

I'm thinking of making a bone necro for running keys. Straight shots down arcane sanctuary and lack of traffic for countess makes me believe that this is the ideal way to go without teleport.

I'm curious about those vipers most have trouble with. If I lay out a bone wall/prison in their line of attack, would that end their ranged attack at the barrier? If I remember correctly the missile stops at the first enemy hit, and since the wall/prison is collidable, and not moving, it would seem like the ideal defense for them while I snipe them from safety.

Any thoughts?

ITs not the vipers ranged attack that kills people its there poison bite that does the trick so yes in effect it would stop it since they cant get to you.

The ideal person is a sorceress. I have 2 sorcs 1 frozen orb and thunderstorm and the other is a light sorc. Both in tals since its quite decent for a mid richness key runner. This only applies if you have no charactors with enigma since speed beats ease. Your sorc maybe weak and die a few times but im sure you could do 3-4 keyruns per 1 bone necro walking .

Bone necros are terrible without decent gear and would be WAY too slow in arcane without teleport although countess wouldnt be too bad . Poison necros arnt too bad with half *** gear :D

Wolf, you're wrong. The ranged attack IS the problem. It's not the poison that kills you, it's the physical damage part of it. Basically if you hold still you should be fine and take the damage as it was intended. However, the bug in it has you take damage for every frame you move in the "cloud" the ranged attack leaves. If you wish to know how powerful that cloud is and how awful the bug is; a dozen revived tomb vipers can easily bring a moving baal to his knees in no time.

As for the OP's question, you should be fine in the countess/arcane area. But for the nihlatak runs I do advise you to have at least a clay golem and a merc (take a ranged merc, less chance they'll die from the poison). Let me know how it worked out for you.

I knew it was something to do with poison damage being added to an attack along with the physical damage but from my memory all i remember is seeing my charactor go green and dieing quickly from the bug and i usually teleport so didnt notice the mist.

9-10 months away so i was bound get something wrong. thanks for clearing it up. for him

Zerker barb with full Howl takes care of Nihl easily and makes the snakes on the way run away with fear. Just plop on some PDR items and some fast running boots and with a few points in Increased Speed = easy D keys ...

I use a 25 pdr ammy , Sol'ed - Gerkes shield , Sol'ed Arreats Face , and a Sol'ed Armor and have very little trouble collecting D keys with my Zerker barb.. Never tried a Necro for this though - cant advise ....

@MichelRPG: I don't think you have to be moving, but if you've first moved you will take huge damage regardless if you are stationary or not. Like when you teleport into a poison cloud you take physical damage per frame until you exit it again. Staying staionary or being knocked back should not make you recieve the physical damage of the attack.

This is all based on something I read quite a while ago and could be wrong.

Oh I can assure you from painful experience... being knocked back DOES activate the bug... and those bloody vipers knock you back a lot ¬¬
