View Full Version : Annoyed - a Pvp Story

Well I finally tried that "special" pvp oriented server only to be disappointed. Having nice gear with little effort is great for testing, but I got maybe 5 real duels and had to put up with a lot of bm in "gm games". So much for "better" competition.

Back on good ol ladder bnet, my ghost did as well as she normally does, even managing to hold her own against a trapper and bvb barb. It wasn't too long before the game became a free for all, and I'm sure you all know how that goes.

This foher starts complaining especially and after several defeats to my ghost the last one he complains I rejuved and leaves abruptly, when moments later several people all vouch that I don't. So I challenge him to an ft5.

So we begin, and I failed to notice he brought a different character. Instead of the foher, he brought in a smiter. So after a close fight even with my lacking ar, he pulls the first one. I swap to the fools and take 1. In the next fight I get him to 1 hp and he starts typing mid duel. I mb for the killing blow and he starts complaining I run too much. At this point I'm already annoyed since pvp on that "server" was boring and juvenile, and now he's whining because he thinks I should just stand there and try to whirl around him smiting like a fool. I win the next one and again, complaints about the "running" when all I'm doing is whirling away while he charges. I try to explain politely that he's making the mistake by not walking but he'll have none of it.

So after another switch (so much for an ft5 right) he brings an es blizzard sorc. At this point I know he's probably going to whine when I beat him, and tell him he's just a waste of time, but he insists. So, after two quick decisive victories, now he's complaining that mb is bm. He leaves and I think I'm finally done.

Now he brings in a hammerdin, the first character I've recognized in previous pubs. I told him that we no longer were doing an ft5 because of all the switches but he demanded I come. So I oblige him one more time. He starts the usual hammer spam albeit closer to town and I start to mb. Hoping I've cleared him from the hammers I tele only to get caught in hammer spam.

He then brags as he tells me how I thought he couldn't "ez" me and leaves relishing this one victory. Of course he avoids a simple rematch since I think deep down he realizes that he would be risking more defeats and wanted to keep that upper hand. Apparently he even took a screen shot to prove his superiority.

Really I'm not so annoyed at him because the accusation I was rejuving alone should have let me know he wasn't worth the time, it should have been obvious to me he was just gonna complain about every tactic I utilized when he lost. It's more so the fact that the mentality is seemingly more and more common in pvp. I don't mind losing in a good fight, as its a step towards improving. I do get ticked about the juvenile attitudes I have to put up with while looking for good fights.

But yeah I know, that's pvp right, I should be used to it by now. It just takes the fun out of pvp, and the game in general.

Well, there will be jerks no matter where you play. This is pvp after all.

If someone complains you run too much just ignore them. If they can't catch you it's their fault.
Really pubs are the same everywhere. Actually on d2pk they do have somewhat inflated egos compared to bnet pubs so ya, just ignore them.

Try the team games when they are announced, those are moderated and usually dont have that type of nonsense. Or just stick to the "gm" tagged pubs. You'll still have to deal with scrubs with inflated egos and there isn't much that can be done to avoid that thats what happens when you duel players in public games. Just try to ignore them and Im sure you'll stumble upon some good opponents. Keep dueling more with them and Im sure you will find a crowd you'll have a good time with.

Just remember, the scrubs *want* to get a rise out of you. If they can't beat you fair they will try to rage you because thats sort of like "winning" to them. Just ignore them srsly. If someone is dodging a duel after one win and claiming "screenshot!" and leave the game just be happy and know that you won, deep inside they are really scared to take that next duel, that is what matters. Pay no attention.

edit: to be honest though, the community isn't what it once was. You have to be on at the right time and most of the old regulars dont even bother with joining pub games, just stick with their f list and the announced games. Try another day or different hours maybe you'll have more luck to avoid the scrubs. But ya it used to be so much easier to find good duels without the nonsense on there. =\

If you win I wouldn't worry what the losers say.
Losers make excuses and complaints.
There is a "squelch" option is there not if his words really hurt you?

I had the same experience with d2pk, went with eud2pk, and although there are way less people online here, the community is just more friendly.

As long as I get to fight your zon first.

i ez joo.

I get to go up against the zon that solo'd ubers right? =P

@wiz yeah, pvp is pvp no matter what game and the egos are bound to be there, no avoiding it. On the bad days it just wears me down a bit. I don't think I've gone maybe two different games between bnet and d2pk without someone nking or starting up the townguard or other less than fun activities.

The last one to annoy me was a zon (who shall remain nameless) that looked like he/she had auto tp on and would run at the first sign of trouble. After catching a break (me testing dclaw vs fury) he then proceeded to nk me and guard the body, stating that he/she did not abide by this "gm" rules as they weren't stated anywhere in the game. I like to play to win, but I try to take into consideration my opponents since this is a game afterall. Even more so, logic dictates more enjoyable gameplay for all parties involved if there is a healthy competition going where the opponents respect each other and have fun. When people start to bm, you're not only taking the fun out of it for your opponents, you ultimately limit your own.

Afterall, you can't pk other players if everyone else decides to leave the room. But yeah I know, I shouldn't expect logic from people who exhibit such behavior, I know better.

When they behave like kiddies, just talk trash about their moms and they'll shut up.

Yay for pouring fuel on the fire.

I find the best tactic for shutting people up is just to ignore them. Doesn't matter what the kiddies say, I'll just respond with "gd" "go again"

Although I also do fuel the fire a lot as well, I do my fair amount of sheit talkin, provoke those that are raging and ask to be provoked further. It's not to shut them up though, its for the lulz.

i agree totally with you. most times i sigh and either exit or go afk long enough that they forget. sometimes though, there's nothing better than "getting in a good one" on some nub that types (or thinks) slower than you.

I usually just avoid everything by never saying anything ever in public games.

Just wanted to say a special thank you to Dave for raping me =P

It's nice to see the quality of gm duelers far surpasses that of the bm ones I tend to run into. That, and it was a pleasure to see how even a trapper variant can be quite deadly in capable hands.

Oh and after you left there was one other trapper that used fb to lock me, he wasn't as impressive tho.

Maybe I should log on sometime.

I can't play Barbs there, though. My ping is too high. Q_Q
