Hello everyone. So I have been playing Diablo II since release and like clockwork once every year or so I get the itching to start playing again. I have made many PvM characters over the years but never really got into the PvP side much because of the cost to be competitive. I usually end up quitting again once I start having trouble trading for items because I hate trading on BNET.

Anyway I have made I think 2 PvP characters ever, a zealot and a V/T aloooong time ago when I came across some good items. I love PvP in other games and want to really try alot of it this coming ladder.

So here's my questions. Obviously there are a ton of builds with varying degrees of items required. I dont want to jump into PvP with extremely expensive chars so what are some good chars/builds to look at for entering the PUB PvP arena? I know Enigma is dependent on alot of builds and I think in time I will afford one next season. What would be maybe 3-5 builds that I could look at to start my PvP learning curve off? FB Sorc? Multizon? WW Barb? I have looked through the guides but there are so many I dont know what to look at really.

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

Terribad post :girly:

Back on topic - try to use the search function or just manually browse the last few pages, we have topics such as "best char", "easiest char to play", "starter char" etc. quite often.

I'd say that windies are decent starter chars if you don't mind being owned by pretty much all assassins :)

nou

he wants "PUB PvP arena" char for new ladder so joderdin is perfect. perhaps you want me to show you how to make one, it's really not that hard.

basically its a hammerdin but instead of points on holy shield/lr or whatever you max prayer before the last hammer synergy. one point in med, salv and holy shield are needed too. so then for gear switch between ga, shaft, vmagi for armor. wizzy, spirit, trang, shako, arach, mara, raven and bk or a sorb ring.

now i tell u gow to desink. you just charge with meditation the entire duel but randomly switch to conc+bh and drop a couple of hammers once in awhile. if you get hurt too mach med+charge away (dont forgot to drop some hammers) untile you're full life. its pretty unbeatable

ps- can i get a sticky for that^ guide?

i personally think that ES fb sorcs are good to start, not too many hotkeys and relatively easy to play.
the downside is that pubs can absorb your damage, so you might want to use this more for good mannered 1v1 duels rather than pubs. (depends though)

apart from that, wind druids can be kinda cheap to build and still be successful. they are good to practise your locks and common game overview, and they can kill pretty much anything (some easier than others, assassins being the hardest to beat).

ask if you need budget build advice.

if you want something really annoying, go for trapsin, not very expencive to build, but people WILL HATE YOU WHEN YOU START MAKING TRAPS

i was just too lazy to write down the same essay again. no offense mate^^

your post indicates that in your mind a trapper is a camping char that sets traps and lets them kill people while running around and trying not to get hit. which is considered annoying or lame by some people (in fact, i personally welcome those freekill assassins in pubs as they give me money and tears :D).
and i strongly disagree with this view towards trapsins as they (or basically all assassin types) are probably among the top 3 most offensive characters if played by a good player.
however, a poorly played trapsin is just sad and not even good or annoying, thats why i personally wouldnt suggest a trapsin to someone who is new to pvp.

anyways, if i misinterpreted your post then ignore what i said :P

Thanks for the build advice. I have made PvM FB Sorcs and Trappers before so it wouldnt be too hard to change the builds slightly and make them pvp so those are good starts. I might have to give Windy a shot. I have only made one druid ever, just never that into them, and that was in single player when LoD first came out. I'll have to give the tree hugger a shot.

One quick follow up question. Do you tend to get max DR on all builds or mostly only worry about that one melee chars? Was the max DR capped at 50 or 75%

it is capped at 50% and you basically want to have as much as possible against everyone that deals physical damage.
the most commonly used physical damage dealers are barbs, smiters (incl charge), wind druids and wwsins.

since you can see a lot of those in pub games, it is advisable to have high DR on a pub char in default equipment, and as a beginner you might want to have maxblock in any case.

i dont bother with any of those, because i am playing es builds ( my fav ) and they can tank absolutly everything. the thing is, for how long ^^

if i were you, i d make 5k mana 95es fb sorc. gosh they good to play with, gozi as well

make a lvl 30 fireballer. they're inexpensive enough as long as you're using "average" gear. Perfection = EXPENSIVE though.
