View Full Version : Rerolling rare jewels with 6 pskulls
Howdy
I've done some searching but I don't really understand all those formulas with qlvl, ilvl and whatnot, so I'll just ask my specific question here.
I'm trying to get a rare jewel with the following mods:
7% Faster Hit Recovery(of truth)
+8-9 Strength(of virility)
and one or both of these:
+11-15 Mana(jacinth)
Replenish Life +1-4(of honor)
My question is if this is even possible with the recipe that rerolls into a low quality rare(6 skulls) and if so, where do these rare jewels need to be found? Does the level requirement of the jewel itself matter?
Is hell diff enough or does it have to be specific areas in hell?
Finally, does the jewel itself degrade with each roll, forcing me to use a new jewel each roll?
Edit:
I managed to solve this with some help, it seems it's perfectly safe to reroll the same jewel over and over when using a level 93 character(in this case), the ilvl of the jewel remains well above the levels of the desired mods.

How great, I was just about writing what I'd think would be the way to look at it, but now that you've solved it, it would be nice if you'd give the details for the rest of us, who might be interested. :)
I'll do my best, it all depends on what you're looking for though.
The highest mod I was looking for was of virility(+8-9str) which has an ilvl of 50 on jewels.
A quick look at the Arreat Summit reveals that the lowest monster level in hell diff is 67(fallen and quill rat), which means the ilvl of a jewel dropped in hell is at least 67.
Since the formula degrades the cubed item, you need a certain clvl to be able to get the mentioned suffix.
ilvl = int(.4 * clvl) + int(.4 * ilvl)
In my case this translates into:
ilvl = (0,4*93)+(0,4*67) = 63
Simplifed version:
ilvl = 27+26 = 63 (50 being the lowest number I need here)
That's the worst case scenario, most of the rare jewels I use will be dropped by monsters of much higher level.
When rerolling the same jewel again you need to apply the rerolled ilvl of the jewel, which is now 63, using the same formula again gives us a result of 62, rerolling once more turns it into 61, and that's the level it will stay at from now on thus giving me infinite rerolls with the same jewel.
According to my calculations you could even get by with clvl 70 when looking for those mods.
I think that's about it, I'm no math wiz so it could be wrong, but I had some help so it should be pretty accurate :)

ilvl = int(.4 * clvl) + int(.4 * ilvl)
In my case this translates into:
ilvl = (0,4*93)+(0,4*67) = 63
Simplifed version:
ilvl = 27+26 = 63 (50 being the lowest number I need here)
That part's ok. According to my calculations you could even get by with clvl 70 when looking for those mods.My calculations say 75. I even made a spreadsheet for you ;)

I won't even bother checking if your sheet is correct or not, I'll just assume it is since I'm so not a fan of maths :whistling:
Thanks though :thumbsup:

Just did the math out of curiousity - at level 75 you're able to maintain your ilvl 50 minimum.
For example
(.4 * 75)+(.4 * 63) = 55.2
(.4 * 75)+(.4 * 55) = 52
(.4 * 75)+(.4 * 52) = 50.8
(.4 * 75)+(.4 * 50) = 50
You'd get infinite rolls at ilevel 50 as long as the jewel was ilevel 50+ to begin with. So the challenge would be getting the pskulls in bulk.
And if you go to clvl 78, it doesn't matter what ilvl the rare jewel is. Eventually, it will become ilvl 51.
[.4 * 78]+[.4 * 1] = [31.2] + [0.4] = 31 + 4 = 35
[.4 * 78]+[.4 * 35] = [31.2] + [14.0] = 31 + 14 = 45
[.4 * 78]+[.4 * 45] = [31.2] + [18.0] = 31 + 18 = 49
[.4 * 78]+[.4 * 49] = [31.2] + [19.6] = 31 + 19 = 50
[.4 * 78]+[.4 * 50] = [31.2] + [20.0] = 31 + 20 = 51
[.4 * 78]+[.4 * 51] = [31.2] + [20.4] = 31 + 20 = 51
