I use /players 8 all the time to get extra xp. But in the Bloody Foothills, I see that xp gain is ~3000 per slayer(the green monster) in BOTH /players 8 and /players 1. Has anyone else got this problem? Are act 5 monsters not affected by /players 8?

I've never heard of this. Make sure you're testing correctly- changing player settings doesn't affect the monsters you've already come within ~2 screens of, IIRC.
it only works on sp, tcp/ip, and open bnet, from the server only
if you get the message
*charname has set the players to #
it worked
it doesnt change the stas of monsters already activated

Does this affect the drop chance of items? If so, /players2 has become my best friend.
Yet it does, however. Additional player are counted as non-partied players making it quite useless. Unpartied players only count for half of the partied player. So you are playing with 1.5 players. Now, diablo doesn't count with half things making this exactly the same as /players 1.
You want to player /players 3 if possible. else you don't gain anything but experience.
Did you enter the players x command before or after the monsters were spawned?

Are you typing "/player x" or "/players x"? It need to be plural.
