View Full Version : Top End Runes: Rare for Rare's Sake?

People keep hoping to find a Zod rune, yet it only seems rare for rare's sake. I admit being able to turn an ethereal item indestructible is handy, but with the odds of finding a Zod somewhere around 1 in a million, Zod's rarity doesn't seem to justify its effect. If Zod were +3 All Skills, that would be worth the rarity.

What do you think?

I disagree.

EDIT: If Zod was +3 all skills, dupers would've **** a chicken and the game would've been broken in half.

you know to make an ethereal weapon indestructible is good , but breath of the dying is better ;)

Way off. 10 billion sounds more accurate, and it's probably alot harder to find then that. ( maybe 10 trillion)

Indestructibility in a socket is certainly powerful enough to make it the rarest item in the game.

It is a bit disappointing that the "rarest" rune is not the most in demand - But making ethereal items indestructible is amazingly useful - the hard part is finding an eth item worth using a zod in.

Aside from botd, there's little else really that uses zod hence its current lack of demand in rune trades on ladder.

Hell baal has a chance to quest drop a Zod at roughly 1:2400000. Getting one from some randome unique monster (Pindle, Lord de Seis..) is about 1:6000000 same goes for Ghost type monsters, that have a good chance to drop runes. They also offer a chance of 1:6000000. Going cowing for that Zod gives you a probabillity of roughly 1:16000000..

these numbers are taken from ATMA and I used a 8 players party to get highest chances possible...

Also, an eth Zoded + 2*IAS/ED jewel Tombreaver is said to be a sight to behold =)

Yeah zod's effect is pretty weak, because there are very few godly items that can use it. The one rune word that uses it, is out classed by grief. All godly rares that spawn ethereal are better suited with the self repair mod so they can use the socket for something else. Granted you can still have a sick rare item that is forced to use a zod rune, but it's always better for a rare to spawn with the self repair mod.

The best use for a zod is for those ethereal upped unique items (shaftstop, hoz, arreats, alma negra, tooththrow, andariels).

I saw a perfect upped ethereal 200/6 arreats (756 defense) sell for tens of thousands of high runes. Obviously you would need a zod rune to make use of that item.

Borje, Im pretty sure rune drops have nothing to do with the amount of players =)

kindof true / kindof not.

The chance of no-drop is smaller with more players in the game, so if you kill a cow on /players1, your odds of a Zod are lower than if you kill a cow on /players8 - just because the cow is more likely to drop something on the higher setting. But you're right that if the cow's going to drop a rune, the odds of a Zod are the same on whatever setting.

Something like this (http://homepage.mac.com/durf/sp-faces/images/LE-final.jpg)? (It's not mine, it's Liquid_Evil's... and he had some help putting it together).

Personally, if I ever found a Zod, I'd strongly consider an upgraded, perfect eth Ribcracker, just for coolness & originality (and there's a small chance that I could actually get my hands on one)... and then I'd probably make an eBotD. :p
