View Full Version : Who's the best NPC to gamble at ?
Hi all,
I had the feeling they were all the same, but I recently heard people saying they never get anything good from gheed, while Anya is very good with them...
I think hell NPCs are better for availability (and also for resell value), but is there a difference between hell NPC gamblers ? In what they offer ? or in the quantity they offer of each ?

The only difference will be if you shop in normal difficulty, where gambling has caps based on the act. In nm and hell difficulties, they're all the same (based on your clvl).

I like Jamala.
She's the closest gambling NPC to the act's waypoint.

To my knowledge, there are no such caps for gambling, only for ordinary vendor items.

I typically gamble at anya since I'm usually trying to shop for claws too and use the portal to reset her inventory.

All NPCs are the same when gambling, but when gambling in hell mode, you can sell the crap results for up to 35k gold while it's less in nightmare and normal.
the only real difference in gambled items is your clvl
gamble ilvls = clvl -5 ~ +4 (in all difficultys)
and hell difficulty sell back prices are always a plus
Let's make a resume:
For the reselling prices: hell: 35 k gold.
For the proximity of "getting out of town": Anya wins with her red tp (otherwise Jamala)
Anyone else has opinion on this ? difficulty thing seems to be just a rumor !

Shopping in A1 has the advantage that you can set up a cow portal next to your preferred merchant, and then pop quickly back and forth to reset inventory.
For shopping in A2 at Drognan's, there are two possible Lut Gholein maps. One has the town exit right next to Drognan and that one is preferable for repeated Drognan shopping.
Vigor or big FRW are helpful for extended shopping sessions.

You don't need to leave town to reset a gambling inventory.
Just cancel out of the window and talk to the vendor again: BAM!
So you don't need to use the same silly tricks that you need when you're shopping for Cunning Claws or whatever.

LOL
Some of you have been wasting a LOT of time if you are leaving town every time you gamble (unless you happen to be shopping at the same time).
It's funny how this game is so old and yet there are still so many misconceptions about the game's mechanics.

In earlier versions you actually had to leave town for resetting the gamble screen, I can imagine people from back then, coming back now, would still have this idea, etc.
i'm gonna say that jamella is the worst to gamble at, because it seems to take longer for her inventory to load up than the other vendors, but other than that there is no difference. nobody else notice this?
i tend to gamble in act 3, because that's where my gf barb lives.

Yeap, Jamella gambling inventory loads significantly slower in my experience. I tend to gamble at gheed, because the green background is more comfortable and he is in a relatively open area with no obstructions.
I just got this idea about gambling, in act1 you can always use the cow level, or at least for most players, and in act5, unless single player you can open one of the Mini-uber portals.
However in principle you could also use the following trick:
#1 Fill your belt with minor potions using the shift + click button to fill the belt. Use a maximum size belt.
#2 Take the belt of, now you've 16 potions in your inventory IIRC. Repeat until the inventory is full.
#3 When the inventory is full, every potion will be dropped in town, that's 16 drops pretty fast. Repeat this until the town is filled.
#4 Go in front of the person you want to gamble at, remove one potion, go out through the waypoint and make a tp, now the tp could appear in front of the one you'll gamble at, if not, take the tp and fill whatever room you happens to enter with potions.
I suppose this could work, but I haven't tested it, inputs will be appreciated.

but as already mentioned thats totally unnecessary for gambling. the screen resets every time.

Oh yeah right, I had begun thinking about shopping for PDR equipment for some reason.
