View Full Version : Immune barb silence vs. 4x pdiamond monarch

Hey guys, I got sick of getting bmed and nked by cocky sorcs, so I'm building a max res sorb barb to bm them back (just when they piss me off, don't worry, I wouldn't use this as my default dueler. I'm not a prick.). Now originally he was gonna be ww, but I've decided to make him leap attack so he can catch up with them more easily (since the necessary g-angel armor makes him run kind of slow). Now, the question is, since he will only hit with one weapon, is it useful to give him a Silence offhand weapon for the 75 resist all and other mods (+2 skills particularly is very nice) or should I just use a monarch with four pdiamonds or maybe four ums in it?
Thanks guys.
P.S. I appreciate helpful insights, but please try to keep the "this probably won't work" stuff to a minimum. I like finding out whether my builds work or not for myself.
Try a wizardspike in offhand, and a teleport amulet. Barbarians have the same fast cast breakpoints as sorceresses, so it all comes down to strategy, skill, and lag. I don't think you will hit very much of anything with leap attack, since it doesn't auto-hit like in the older versions of the game. I find that faster cast rate is more important than damage negation when dealing with sorcs. The sorc will typically be at 105% fcr and you should match that. Then it's simply a matter of chasing her into a mistake, and that mistake is usually pausing to attack you, then you attack and it's over.

thanks for the tip on the wizzy, works great. I also appreciate you respecting the parameters of the build by saying teleport ammy and not enigma, which would totally change the build. I may try that out, but for the moment I've put a point into conc for a short range attack should I manage to get in their face.
If you actually did use WW, you'd catch them MUCH easier by simply ww locking on them.
Holding down the right mouse onto the name, you'll follow them endlessly until they stop - game over. This is a decent alternate to teleport.
Also, If you use silence in a weapon thats in your mastery, that would be nice since you could have better AR/Damage and the chance to hit with both of those weapons at the same time (with ww and weapon speed dependent). That's a good option since you don't need block vs sorc.
Last but not least. If you really wanna BM, then make a sanctuary shield and slow missle them.

I don't want to actively bm them, I want to totally nerf their attacks to such an extent that they more or less can't hurt me. Which I can say I have successfully done. I've rethought my strategy (which will involve a rebuild) but it still involves LA. I've discovered that you really can follow someone fairly effectively with a combination of LA-locking and a melee attack. With this build I've used concentrate because it's synergied by my maxed bo so I can put one point in, but I'm gonna switch to either ww or berserk (defense is meaningless against sorcs so berserk loses its major disadvantage). But more than that...it's a really, really fun and entertaining way to duel. Believe me. If you LA lock them you can jump across like three screens. It's like flying!

why not two silences? edit: i think that's what barloc already said, mybad.

I opted against two silences because, aside from the expense, silence does very little damage compared to most weapons, and I need to at least be doing some damage, even against sorcs.

so instead of a silence which does damage you're going with a shield that doesnt?

Well after playing around I've opted for main hand ebotdz and offhand wizzy vs sorcs and sanctuary vs auradins and lite zons.

He's using Leap-Attack anyway

Well, no, I've revamped the build a bit. I built the leaper, didn't work out so great (but he was an extremely effective tank, just didn't deal enough damage). Now I use leap attack for transportation and berserk as my main attack.
Welp, I think if you re-vamp yet again, you'll go WW. Unless, your just tryin to surpise the occasional newb sorc with something different.

I like my weirdass builds, thank you very much. And it was a tough choice between ww and berserk, but I chose berserk because I think it's more effective at cutting through ES. But my friend is building the same build with ww so I'll see how his turns out.

Beserk does do great dmg, problem is it has high ias breakpoints. WW is the easiest way to hit a sorc, if you wanna go w/ decent fcr/frw and tele zerk sorc goodluck. Takes alot of practice and great timing.
WW w/ Silence+Beast, if you need more resist use p-kiras,maras or hlords and maybe prebuff w/ trachery for the fade. That stuff alone should help you survive vs elemental dmg. And if you have a problem vs ES, invest in some psn dmg, it shreds ES.

Great idea about poison damage, I'll round up my poison charms. For all interested and all who want to critique, here's the gear as it stands:
Eth zod'd G-Angel
34 res Metalgrid
Um'd Arreats
Ebotdz
Sanctuary Troll Nest (68 res)
Tgods
IK Gloves (huge str dex bonus gives damage and AR, and there are no all resist gloves)
2x Ravenfrosts (dex + ar + cold sorb)
Treks (str + fhr)
14/20 Anni
20/12 Btorch
Assorted resist scs, life scs, and max dmg/ar scs
Then in my stash there aree, among other things:
160 res lite monarch
160 res cold monarch
Pdiamond' stormshield (vs windy druids and bowazons)
Snowclash
2x Dwarf Stars
2x Wisps
That's about it I think. I only use most of the sorb when I've been bmed first. My rule for duels is that if I can still die, it's not bm, but I think with stacked 95 lite res, tgods and 2x wisps I become immune to lightning, so I would call that bm. I did revamp for ww in the end, and hopefully it'll work out, I haven't tested it in pvp yet. I'm doing like 1.5-3k ww dmg with the ebotdz. The beast with silence idea is an interesting one.

i was just remembering the other day that a friend of mine once had a regular ww barb for pvp that when he wanted to go all out vs a cold sorc, he'd use two um'd wizzard spikes. this was particularly good vs es variants. the ow from the um would drain them and the huge res in a tiny package was good for stashing.

It's an interesting idea. Maybe I'll stick on an um'd fleshripper for use against ES sorcs. 75% open wounds, after all.

Why eth zod GAngel and not Um GAngel? On a setup vs elemental dmg defense is useless.
Don't forget the Rising Sun for fire sorcs.

Rising Sun's in the stash too. And as for the g-angel, because I had it around. Traded a 34% ed jewel for it. :) . Also, this is really for elemental characters in general, and defense helps against zealers and javazons and the like.

I've hit a problem. I can't catch sorcs. I need to find a way to catch them without giving up my massive tankability (g-angel). Anyone have any ideas?
Yep.
Use teleport, if you don't want to give up on your G-angel you'll have to use charges from a circlet or an amulet.
Get ~19 point in leap (not leap attack), leap in the spot you stand, leap has a hidden stun range whichs stuns the entire screen at level 19 (which you can calculate using the pythagoros formula and using the screen width and height). Leap in place, when the sorc gets stunned the recovery animation is doubled for some reason, so if you've enough cast rate and a fast enough weapon you'll be able to catch the sorc and hold the sorc down by whirlwinding in a triangle also called dance of death.
That's general BvC strategy, though enigma is usually prefered as you can teleport as much as you like with that, with charges you've to show some real skills and probably have some backup charges items in your inventory as if you run out you shouldn't expect to catch any sorc.
