Does anyone else remember those two spells? They were so awesome, though Diablo's Chain Lightning was also really cool...

Yes, D1 is much better in general.

I never found Elemental very useful really, too slow. It was sometimes good to use it as sonar to get an idea where monsters were in another room that you couldn't see into, or to drag out monsters that were just on the cusp of a room but if you walked into visual range you'd be mobbed.

Likewise bone spirit was too wussy, even though it would take 1/3rd of their health off, it just moved too slow and not being able to aim it at particular monsters was annoying.

Ya those were cool spells to look at. But the guardian spell was mana hungry at best and only lasted for a short while (unless you had many books). My favorite is fire wall and apocolpse.
