...unfortunately, this is what has been keeping me away from the mule trades and the activity in the USEAST trading forum. I apologize in advance to all of those who have had to wait or those who have given up on waiting. This is a worst case scenario for me and I hope I can rectify it to make it up to all of you. So let's start at the beginning...

I've reinstalled diablo 2 and LOD
I've downloaded and applied the latest patch again
I have tried using telnet to test my connection to USEAST.battle.net 6112 and I get so far as to the "blank screen with the cursor at the upper left corner" but when I press "C" I do not get the usual "this is a battle.net server" message, I simply get the line ["C: \Documents and Settings\User"] - If someone knows what this means, I would be curious to know (thanks)
I have used traceroute to try and find out where the problem lies. Everything is cool until about the last 2-3 lines, which have *'s and "Timed Out" - Again, I'm not sure what this means, if someone could help that would be awesome
I have used NSLookup and it gave me very normal results, nothing out of the ordinary or wrong etc.
I have reset my battle.net server list

Now, having done all this (as well as the usual restart of computer, modem, router, etc) I still am not able to connect to ANY of the 4 servers, as they all return the "unable to connect to battle.net" error message. I am able to use all other functions of my internet including other games. I have never broken any of the rules that would assess me a temp ban (except switching characters a couple times, but this was not the case) and regardless, this error has been coming up for over a week now.

I did send blizzard a message but I would like to get the voice of the people who play the game as in my experience their knowledge is unrivaled when dealing with issues of this nature. Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated :)

thanks

What type of router do you have and what is your current firewall setup. I know people are wary about shutting their protection down even for a second but consider trying it anyway to see if it helps. That includes antivirus and firewall products. If you have a store bought router between your connection and your PC then try and bypass it.

You could be looking at doing some port forwarding in your router. Some ISP's will do it for you for free. Some will charge you a small fee. Some won't do it at all and just refer you to the router manual. Give it a try.

Some ISP's block traffic from a certain port range for security reasons that could be your issue. I don't know if you can open those ports on the user side if that's the case. I would go to Blizzards support page and note down the ports used for D2 and then give your ISP a call asking them why you can't connect.

for telnet you need to follow directons

start -> run -> cmd [enter]
telnet uswest.battle.net 6112 [enter]
[youll get a prompt "__"]
[type (case sensitive, must be lower)] c
[it will return your internet ip address (from your router) if it works]

also make sure your logged in to windows as an administrator, and try disabling windows firewall

when you have a battle, go to your BR and do the ol copy and paste into a text document.

that way you never have to worry about losing them, even when you evo
