This is a repost from the community forums because no one was of any real help at all over there:

So I've read up on what the hell it means when your connection has been restricted from the realm, why it happens, etc...

People said after it happens wait about 10-15 minutes before trying to re-login and you should be alright. It happened to me today at around 3:30. I waited until 4:30 to try to login and I still got the message. I didn't try again until JUST now, 6:15, and I'm STILL getting this goddamn message.

How the hell am I supposed to play this game like this? Is there a way to get around this retarded lazy bot "fix" Blizzard has put into the game? Why are people saying waiting 10 minutes works and I wait an hour and 45 minutes and it doesn't work? What gives?

And an *update*: Just got home at 2:00 A.M. and I'm STILL restricted. According to the useless Blizzard support site, these 'restriction' lengths are supposed to be anywhere from 10 minutes to 12 hours long depending on the severity of the 'violation.'

First of all, I didn't violating ANYTHING by joining baal runs quickly. Secondly, are they honestly saying I'm receiving the most severe punishment for joining 3 ****ing baal games TOO QUICKLY OMG!? This bull**** is absolutely ridiculous.

Try turning your router off for half an hour and back on to reset your mac address or whatever it's called. It's basically a temp ip ban. I have two network cards in my pc so i just switch the cable over and it seems to work.

If you can't get a new address the way i discribed try calling your ISP and have them reset it for you so you get another random andress. I'm not a PC tech so excuse me if i get my terms mixed up.

I agree that the whole system is idiotic. It's punishing the legit players while the botters just put timers in their scripts to circumvent it. Point is it doesn't work and it punishes you and me.

One of my friends got a 2 week temp ban, so you might want to change your ip like suggested above. You could contact Blizz and see if anything is up too.

Be grateful you didn't lose anything muling.

As far as it being a punishment - I think its extreme - however, it usually takes more than just 3 switches to activate - and I wouldn't be surprised if your previous games were too quick.

Every time you long in, you end up adding more time to your ban if it hasn't lifted already.

For the longest time, I had issues with it and it got so frustrating I was resetting my ip address regularly. Finally I configured some port forwarding to see if it help - then my software firewall started seeing data and blocking. Once I started disabling the software firewall, I stopped getting the realm downs in between switches. Don't get me wrong, I still watch it, but instead of a realm down and temp ban, I simply can't login altogether for several minutes.

I tried just about everything to change my IP other than calling my ISP and nothing worked. Gave up after about 7 different ways of doing it and 7 failed logins. I also contacted Blizzard via email. You know what I got? Another LAZY *** automated email listing countless random things that I MAY be emailing about.

I'm starting to think Blizzard employees do NOTHING. WoW support is absolutely horrendous just like this. WTF are these retards doing all day.

Either way, I read the guide on how to avoid it and I haven't had issues yet. I really do think the problem lies with how quickly you join the next game after your previous one ends, regardless of how long your games are. I simply wait a good 15-20 seconds before joining a new game and I haven't been temp banned yet. Sure, sometimes games fill and I miss a spot in a good run...but hell it's better than being banned for 15+ hours.

I'm glad I don't have to bother with this anymore - port forwarding is your friend. Even waiting to join didn't prevent it from happening for me till I configured the router, which makes sense since packets lost/blocked could possibly be considered suspicious or require more action than normal from the server side.

As for changing Ip (which I used to have to do when i didn't set port forwarding) yo need to change the mac address of your device your connection plugs into - either your nic (if you plug in directly) or your router. If you're not familiar with that, you're best bet is to simply wait it out and take precautions next time - but I strongly urge you to setup port forwarding if you're using routers and firewalls.

But, as for complaining about blizzard - you should be grateful that after all these years battlenet even supports d2 still. Most online games die within a few years short of the hardcore mmorpgs (and counterstrike). Expecting quality support for a service that hasn't profited the company in years where as its other products (like WoW) provide a large amount of their funding makes no sense. The company makes money by keeping its paying subscribers happy - it loses money in maintaining d2 servers.

Agreed, but I've played WoW for years and the support for that game sucks as well. I never complained about diablo or battle.net in the past because it was basically a free service. WoW on the other hand is not, you are paying monthly for their service and it is terrible, in and out of the game. Just something I have come to deal with being a Blizzard customer.

Are you still currently restricted?
And yes, Blizzard support is actually terrible, but good compared to other companies:S
On topic, if you get temp restricted, try not to go mad and continue to keep logging in, as that actually increases your waiting time (like someone said)

I mule like a beast at midnight PST, 'course I'm on West. I've yet to get a temp ban of any kind this ladder season.

Grin and bear it I suppose.

As for being grateful Blizzard still supports this 8 year old game when others die after x amount of years. Consider the fact that D2 still cost full retail price 8 years after release. You goddamn right i would expect some service and support. Those other games you 'hint' at does NOT cost full price today. It's common practice to lower the price of games after they have been a success. It's completely redicioulus we have to pay full price for it still and not expect support.

Luckily it's not an issue since D2 is still fully supported with content patches, ladder wipes and an active warden program that does what it can to eliminate cheaters. But saying we should be grateful is a bit of a stretch. We pay for that support in terms of paying full retail price to this day.

I got restricted 1 hour ago again, can't get on! i was mfing in a game for 25-40 minutes then when i leaved the game i was redirected to the log in screen and when i logged in it said: "Your connection to this realm have been restricted", lol god dammit i dont care if they try to eliminate cheaters cause their doing a crappy job, theres LOTS of spamming bots selling d2 warez all over the game but blizzard is to ignorant to do something about it, i care more about getting rid of those f'n ware sellers than bots.

I can't remember the last time I saw a diablo 2 that wasn't the full battle chest with the extra guides and even then it was one that had been in stock for years. At the same time, I don't think anyone goes out and buys a new diablo 2 - with the selection of games available today, unless you're using it to satiate a hunger for d3, most players already had their d2 years ago when it was actually new.

I think it's rediculous to expect quality support from blizzard when logic deems devoting as many resources to WoW is far more profitable - it's a business after all. Of all the on-line games I played during d2's heyday, I think counterstrike is the only one still left, and its gone through quite a few changes and upgrades. Wow makes about $15 per person per month with thousands of subscribers - d2 hasn't been "profitable" in years and costs in server maintenance alone would be enough justification for most companies to drop the product long ago.

It's a wise practice to lower prices for popular products, no disagreement there. But that decision is not up to you. However, you have the choice to pay the price or walk away and leave it on the shelf. The only reason I even picked up d2 again was because I had it in storage - If I had to pay over $20 for a software game that many years old, I'd find another means of entertainment.
