View Full Version : Guide to Getting Around Temp Restricted

I originally posted this in response to a thread but it makes more sense if this stays as a thread.

Don't ask me how I know this stuff, suffice to say I've got some experience on how bots work and get around time limits.

1. Making Games
Game length is not very important. On average 3-4 minutes per game is more than enough. The important thing is the time spent between making new games and logging in, etc. I used to open new games very fast (Meaning once I return to lobby screen, I'd hit create new game, paste the game name add the number add pass and make a new game. This doesn't take longer than 2-3 seconds). This would get me kicked fast, no matter how long each game took (I used to average 9-10 minutes per game).

The trick is, wait between screens just a few seconds. Log in, on the character screen, slowly pick your character, even use your mouse to go to your realm, join your favourite channel, say hi, take a quick glance at the games in case there's a trade that interests you, etc. Basically, take your time between screens, just a few second each makes the difference. Between making new games, take at least 10 seconds (Take a piss, grab some water, glance the games again). Bots randomly pick something between 10 and 30, so that the time they wait is not the same so it's less detectable. Use this knowledge to your aid.

Also got this from PM;

Got somethin to add to it if you wanna throw it in there. I make, join/exit games and switch characters moderately fast and through trial and error I have come up with this method.

From game...Escape button till exit(not lightning fast mind you, but like a beat, boom boom boom), select new character slowly hit enter. Enter chat, go to join game and before i enter my game info i wait for the other games to pop up. Every time I get temp banned is when I enter my game info/pw and hit enter before the games pop up in the menu.

I have been using this method for months and haven't been temp banned since then.
Sounds to me, and I'll check it out for myself too.

2. "Please Wait"
If you get this, it can be from your connection as well. Even if you have a supersonic internet connection that shouldn't be giving you this, and while still server might just lag sometimes causing this to appear, best to be cautious. Proceed to your game as usual, but when making the next game, wait closer to 30 seconds. It's usually nothing to worry about, but best to be cautious.

3. Changing Characters
Don't hit escape continously. When going a screen back, wait until it fully loads, then return to previous screen again (In case you're logging to a different account too).

Obviously if you're muling you'll be too nervous to lose your items and will want to get them ASAP. There's a few ways around it. One, two computers (obviously). Two, mule with a friend and take it slow as usual. Three (this is what I do on sc since I don't have many friends on sc seeing I play hc mostly):

Look at the games, and spot the games during longer than 10 minutes. Best cases are "AFK - IWUB" games since they will not disturb you and you can count on the game being open. Make sure it's not a trade, baal, diablo or tomb run etc so it doesn't get filled fast. Join, take a wp and go to somewhere your mule can go to as well, drop your items. Even gray items will not disappear in one minute. You can test it yourself - drop a socketed item and watch it disappear. It takes around 5 minutes. There's no need to rush, especially not if your items are dropped to obscure places (I like dropping near A2 gambler or Hratli) people are not going to notice it. That leaves with banning problem. So, if items will not disappear in one minute, why do you have to worry? Again, take your time, change characters slowly, wander a bit and resist the urge to JOIN THE GAME AND GET THE ITEMS NAO. I know it's instinc but it's against logic. Your Enigma will stay shiny for a few minutes, don't worry. Taking 30 seconds - 1 minute total between two characters will not make anything disappear.

4. Failed to Join / Game Not Found
First can be for any reason (I'm not exactly sure why), and second is Blizz's hack %90 of the time. First case, take a minute before making a new game, second, take anywhere from a minute to ten.

5. Restricted
You still get restricted. Reseting your modem evades this, but though I have no solid evidence to proove this, from my experience it seems almost like they pay more attention to your account after a restriction for a while. I had once (Before I knew any of these) played an hour, got restricted, changed my IP, played again, got knocked in 10 minutes, changed again, joined a baal run, and got kicked right after I quited the game. Might be me thinking funny, but it almost seems the case. So either way, if you get restricted, change your IP and stop MFing or Baaling for a while and go quest / level up something. It's safe to go back to your routine after an hour or so.

6. Return to Login Screen
People think this has got to be with being restricted, and it certainly might be, I have no reasons to believe it's directly related. I get booted to login screen after 2 hours of questing and mfing alike. In fact, if I spend a lot of time in one game, most of the case I return to login screen after quiting the game, and from my friends lists it seems to be the case as well (I get "X has left Battle.net" whenever someone leaves a game). This is nothing to worry about, slowly type your acc name and pass and proceed as normal (slow and steadily).

By slow, throughout the guide I don't mean be a snail, but it shouldn't take 3 seconds between logging in and entering your game. Make it 10-30, and you'll thank me for it.

Using these methods you will evade restrictions most of the time. I know I don't get caugt by it for a LONG time. Yes, it may seem counter-productive to wait a minute or ten before next game; odds are, for next few games it won't matter if you blitz join in chains, but on 5th or 6th game you'll get knocked and hello, you'll now have to wait 2 hours instead of 1 minute.

It seems funny that these so called measures are got around very easily by bots but not by players and it shows how much Blizz actually cares about realm play. But still, if you enjoy playing this game, there's not much else you can do.

Good "guide". I have similar methods and haven't been temp banned too much.

I just wanna add a few things, if you don't mind: when switching chars, always make sure the game has level restricts appropriate for you and your mule, and that the player amount isn't too small. Also, try to find games with jumbled names rather than a mule parking game. Many mule parking games have people looking out for people transferring items (and believe me, the last thing you want to see is some nub picking through your hard-earned items...).

I've also heard there's some temp-ban rule where you can only join/create a certain amount of games per hour, but I don't know if it's true.

Good guide but a bit innaccurate. I farm Mephisto every night for over 60+runs so i also have experience with this but unlike you i don't use bots and never have. I exit and enter a new game very fast and my game last but a minute. When i reach the ~15th game i stay in it for 15 minutes farming other things like all the act bosses+keys. Once I'm done i continue my streak of less than a minute meph runs rinse repeat.

It has to do with the amount of games created within a longer timespan of 45mins - 1 hour. I believe from trial and error you can bypass it by staying in the last game before the ban for a bit longer. This is where the 3 -4 minutes pr game suggestion comes into play. To have a steady flow of new games without having to worry about how many games you have created within that 45 mins to an hour. It is but one way. Another way as i suggested is to stay longer before the 16th game.
