Right, if this has been discussed elsewhere I would appreciate a link, if not here it goes:

The situation is a little complex, but I'll try to explain it as clearly as possible. I have a 70 lvl sorc who needs to equip marrowwalk uniq boots (118 str req). I do not have the basic str to do so. So I have equipment that gives me str.

At first there was no problems: str gear on, marrows + tgod's on, str gear off, tgod's & marrows stay on. Then I exited & rejoined the game. Well, not so surprisingly tgod's and marrows are red and I can't use them. Swapped some str stuff, including str boots (!), got tgod's on, but CANNOT equip marrows again.

And no, it's not the str boots. Without the boots I have 124 str with tgod's and should be able to equip marrows. But I can't.

I see marrows in my inventory as a usable item (i.e. not red), but when I try to put them on nothing happens. My sorc doesn't say "I can't use this". Nothing happens at all. I simply cannot equip them even though I did so before and I meet all the req.

So this is what we have:
1. 124 str & 70 lvl
2. Marrows that cannot be equipped
3. I play b.net, ladder, hc.

Any help would be welcome...

After doing some tests I'm confused...

At first I thought that the problem was because I did not re-equip tgod's, but just activated (i.e. turned from red to usable) it by equipping +str stuff. And I had this fancy theory that without re-equipping the item the +str is somehow bugged...

... but now everything works as it should without re-equipping: I just add +str items on entering a game, tgod's get activated and marrows go smoothly on, and finally +str stuff goes back to stash.

Well, I don't know what to think of this. Has anyone else ever had a similar problem with equipping items? I'm not imagining this, right? -_-"

At first there was no problems: str gear on, marrows + tgod's on, str gear off, tgod's & marrows stay on. This is a glitch, and while I remember no patch notes fixing this, it's not an intended use of +str mechanic in either case.

Putting on +str gear, and then items requiring str - this is okay. But what you do (I know it since we used to do it in hardcore) is the glitch.

And no, it's not the str boots. Without the boots I have 124 str with tgod's and should be able to equip marrows. But I can't.What the game does it - it sees your str with +str boots, and since it's over the threshold, it shows Marrowwalk as equipable. When you try to swap them, though, the game checks your str without the boots' added str, so Marrowwalk is unequipable.

Since it's a glitch, it may work some of the time, and not the other times. Your best bet is to actually invest more in str and don't make it like 20 more life is going to change the world. q:

Do this: Wear all the "usual" gear you can with your base str (NOT the stuff that just give +str so you can equip 'em, put other item with str req and + str, and then remove). Then check your str and add as much as needed to wear the next item. This is often the case with Enigma - you'll have like 60 base str, with enigma giving 60 something, and then you'll have 120 str and you can wear stuff, as long as Enigma stays on still.

Thanks for the reply, I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one with these problems.

After testing different moves I've concluded the following:

1. I have this theory that it happens only when you unequip and try to re-equip an item that you can only wear because of "self-equipping" +str items (i.e. the +str in the item makes it possible for you to use it, and you take +str boost items off after equipping it).

2. When you do get it then the way to fix it is this: unequip the self-equipping +str items that are unusable (i.e. red), put +str gear on, re-equip the self-equipping +str items, and everything should work normally. This might pose serious problems in softcore what with the looting your own bodies and all, but in hc everything should be just fine as long as you carry +str gear in your stash and do not unequip items while out of the town.

Your best bet is to actually invest more in str and don't make it like 20 more life is going to change the world. q:

I have a base str of 10, and I need to equip items with 110 & 118 str req; I'm afraid the life loss will be a bit more than 20 hp...
