anyone knows what clvl or difficulty and what shop ???

Drognan in act 2, nightmare and hell. That would be the fastest way to shop it.

What you see in the shops, depends on your clvl, so the higher it is, the more chance of the item being exceptional.

cant buy any grey items in NM or Hell difficulty iirc
especially exceptional items, best bet is monster drops

nm hell bovines would be your best bet to find a nostat barbed shield. 1:5374 according to atma :D

Very good info, CoolDarkDragon. I am failing at buying a socketable shield from Drognan in nightmare and hell. I agree that nightmare cows would be the best bet.

i've been doing a few tries:

*socketed normal (non-exceptional) items easy to shop n normal difficulty.

*i can't remember if i ever saw a socketed exceptional shield (or whatever item) or not in nm or hell diffuclty.

*i usually get barbed shields (exceptional spiked shield) when i tried with my clvl 86 sorc in shopping drognan both nm and hell (hell had more barbed shields, exceptionals, apearing than nm), but every single shield was magical, and i thought it was due to high clvl.....

so i tried lower clvls, and done a few shop runs, never seen socked barbed shield yet. tried like clvl 40-86 in both nm and hell, though only doing a few runs. no massive shop run testing.

maybe...have to be higher clvl than 86...but i doubt it.

or...

maybe have to be like clvl 30 or lower for socketed barbed shields... but i doubt it..at some clvl barbed shields won't apear if u go too low clvl.

ya it seems shops, doesn't exist, or at least very uncommon (maybe due to not knowing what clvl and not doing enough runs on my part), so getting it from monsters is best.

i do have a 2 socketed barbed shield (and i know i'd remember if i had shopped it), but it was from a hell cow or maybe nm cow drop.

hell cows would be better than nm cows for exceptionals. hell has higher chance of dropping exceptionals than nm.

though of course if hell cows isn't availble, or too ahrd, than u have to do/stuck with nm cows.

Not sure why one would want a 2 socketed barbed shield though, a 3 socketed tower is heavier, but provides more ctb and an extra socket. Otherwise, if it needs to be light, go for a large shield(shoppable in normal, act 1, Charsi or Mr. Greed) ctb compensated by Holy Shield.
If it's for a smiter, most of your damage will come from Crushing Blow and secondly from Holy Shield.

it's for smiter, until i get my godly rare barbed shield with +2 paladin, prism, resist, 17/30/20, etc mods

i like the extra damage it (barbed shield) gives, even if not that much.

the grey (socketed) part is for resists against different elem users in duels.

You really won't notice the difference between a barbed or another exceptional shield due to CB and Holy shield, those two factors completely negate the extra damage barbed gives compared to other exceptional shields.
And for 19 more res all or 40 of a specific res, I'd say that extra socket is well worth it. :)

i do agree an extra socket and/or higher block chance (if barbed shield doesn't hit 75% with holy shield, i can't remember what it is) can be very nice !!!

just for right now, i "LIKE" the *SMALL* extra damage. or at least the mental lllusion it gives me (plaseebo effect..have no idea how u spell this word..).

Keep in mind that the max sockets for a barbed is 2, so with 2 pdiamonds it's all res 38. This may or may not be enough. You might consider using items with high single or dual res (noko, sig boot) and combine this with a shield containing gems for the missing resist. This would be 40 instead of 38. Keep in mind, however, that the total res 2 diamonds gets you is 152, whereas the max with 2 single-element gems is 80. But pay attention to what kind of gear you have lying around because you never know if you're missing something crucial to your equip.

Sure i used to shop them from act 2 drog norm many times in the past...tho i dont play now....them and socketed bone shieds for extra res's and small str req for me new hc chars cheap and simple...the way i remember it , unless they patched it away?
