Hi as the title says I need advice on a light Sorc. She is my number one character and I use to farm items and equip everything else.

And here is the rub

A few weeks ago I started playing classic as I did not have the exp disk and I turned it off after a few hours as I was bored and then I realised that what I really like finding are eth armour, charms, runes and gems and nothing else.

MF is great but not to the detriment of everything else. But when a grand charm drops in hell you know it could be anything. I even collect skillers when I don’t need them

But I am digressing.

I was going to go the usual route of the full tals plus all the normal stuff but now I have some gear and wealth I am not sure as I never liked the slow down in FCR and MF is overated as all my real wealth in the past has come from the things I like looking for

This is what I have

HOTO (gift-what can I say)
ESch mid range +3
Tals wand
Occy

Spirit shield

Vipermagi (love the FCR)
Tals helm
Tals belt

Nats boots (underrated and the best for me. 40%WF and resists) don’t even bother suggesting anything else I love these boots so much

Rings mana boosts
Amu rare skiller and boost

Sorc torch low
Diablo charm low

I like FCR and I was hoping to shoot for 105
I notice that regardless of whether I use 200MF or not I still get lots of non magical items drop and really it is all about numbers

Can anyone suggest a balanced that keeps my MF at around 100 and my FCR at 105 and still gives me good killing speed. The MF is the least important of the lot

I currently do 6K chain light and 14k lighting which is just dandy for hell.

I have about 4 Ists to spend so I cannot go for runewords.

Lastly. The last time I played this game I had an infinity sorc and the merc had the runeword. Good but still not great against broken light immunes.

If I held the runeword myself in a lesser polearm could I get around the problem of resists and lack of FCR?

Many thanks

Dulson

Tal set + spirit shield (tal thul ort amn) + magefists + 1 fcr ring (if your spirit isn't 35%) = 105 FCR, 168-ish MF, -15% enemy lightning resist and 17k lightning with torch/anni.

By all means, get Infinity for your merc with your Ists. You weren't doing well against broken light immunes because you had no - enemy lightning resist. The -15% from tal's shall be enough for you. Lightning sorc isn't the most efficient MFer when you don't use Infy merc.

And may I bother myself and suggest Aldur's boots... With tal's + spirit you don't need more lightning/cold res, but fire/poison res would be lacking. Now poison isn't as important as the others, and Aldur's offer 40% FRW, big fire res and +life.

The above is the budget setup. If 100 MF is enough for you and you want big killing speed, get something along these lines:

Griffon's Eye
Crescent Moon (Shael Um Tir)
Skin of the Vipermagi
Spirit Monarch
Mara's
Arachnid Mesh
Magefist
SoJ x2
War Travellers

And fill in the 2 open sockets with facets/Ums/PTopaz as you see fit. War Trav's + Gheed's will get you close to 100MF, and 1-2 more MF scs will get you there. You can also swap Magefists for Chance Guards and retain 105 fcr if your Spirit is 30+, but you'd be losing 117 fcr breakpoint for Lightning/Chain.

As Scudstorm mentioned, the breakpoint you probably want for lightning & chain lightning is 117 FCR.

105 FCR is for teleport, and therefore probably slightly more important, but in my opinion, if you're going to have at least 105 FCR you might as well get that extra 12% too - it's not really a stretch or a sacrifice.

Probably the most-affordable (for your wealth) and most versatile "good" basic setup is the one Scudstorm laid out: Full Tal Rasha's + Spirit + Magefists (if your cold resists are lacking you can substitute Trang's gloves for Magefists easily). This will leave you with 95-105 FCR, depending on your Spirit. I'd get that last 12-22% from rings, but... you can't get more than 10% on a ring, so you'd need at least 27% FCR on your Spirit shield - which should be pretty easily attainable.

Then your boots, charms, and weapon-switch can all be customized to help cover the things you feel you need most. You might want Aldur's boots for their nice defensive compliment to your other gear, or WarTrav's for the extra MF and +str, or Silkweave's for the extra mana, etc...

The other setup he laid out is about what I'd aim for once you're more wealthy, but I would start with the Tal's set & stuff.

If you wanted to wield an infinity yourself, you'd be looking at a specialized and potentially very expensive setup.

However, if you're simply looking to improve performance, having an infinity merc would make the biggest improvement hands down.

Aside from that, hitting the fcr breakpoints in tals is possible when not focusing on mf as it does provide fcr bonuses. A high fcr spirit, fcr rings and magefists/trangs and you should be set there. Nothing like reiterating what's already been posted =).
